[FAKE] Unofficial firmware from chinese bbs

Now,a screenshot of M0.01 was released on chinese bbs


Samdyshen anounced the firmware was in post-developing(doing resource files), a few tech problems were being dealing with,the day of release was getting closer.

M0.01s 's developer Samdyshen said(the original bbs post has edited by him a while ago) he with his partners is now making a easier way for installing the firmware for ordinary users.
the new installation contains 3 steps:
1),Use the M6.ebn(developed by them) to modify the original system of M6, making m6 able to install the BOOT file.
2),download "Boot" file to M6.("boot" would let M6's cpu correctly working in linux system)
3),donwload "m0.01s.bin.bin" to M6.This BIN file contains linux software and resources.

M0.01s would auto regulate CPU's working clock when playing music, so the battery's life would be longer.

New firmware will no longer contain OTG, and BBE will be invisible in the menu, Samdyshen said BBE will auto enabled when playing music.
Menu under "SRS" will only contains 2 items.

AT NOW,most users on chinese bbs are angry with Samdyshen, they think everything Samdy said is fake(So do I).

But, time would examine everything.

There is an unoffical firmware appeared on Meizu's chinese forum
the firmware's name is M0.01s
the developer declared that he did it with some MITs,and the firmware was based on Linux system by arm9
From the introduction, the firmware M0.01s has included SRS and BBE sound effects and some other new functions.Suprisly, he said the firmware can make the player playing mp3 at 320kbps over 42h 17m !!!!

NOW,the maker is doing a second playback time test(mp3,320kbps,no operations during playing)

the firmware 's maker didn't tell us how to install it to Miniplayer
just saying "the firmware must be installed with a special tool"
but without saying the name of tool.

the Firmware RAR pack has two files:
BOOT
M0.01s.bin.bin

I've searched "linux arm9" at google(of course google china),there were so many results about linux os on arm9 cpu, I wanna find the tool to do some help with the firmware.

i had a go at upgrading to this but i cant get it to work.. i renamed the two files:

m0.01s.bin.bin
BOOT(no extension)

to:

resource.bin
M6.EBN

but no luck, i also tried just copying the files over to my meizu as they were (original names) but that didnt work either.

anyone got any ideas? i'm willing to try this if anyone knows how to get it to work

i tried it too and it never worked. I tried renaming the boot to M6.EBN and the m1.01s.bin.bin to resource.bin and i got an upgrade error. I tried it normally and it didnt work. Im back to normal.
I would love to know how to get this firmware on.

The only thing left to try is dfu tools.

i tried mounting it and got an error, i even tried putting it in the same directory as shown in a picture on meizu BBS thread (in a folder on the miniplayer called m6) but that didnt work.

i read the furom and cannot find clear installation instructions, there are some people talking about DFU tools, but i'm not entirely sure
I would love to be able to use custom firmware on my meizu, perhaps in the future even rockbox, who knows...

in the download page, the description is as follows:

M0.01S is based on the Linux system M6sp version of the firmware has been developed. There are two documents m0.01s.bin boot and use special tools to install.

i have looked in the source, there seems to be an option "play rate" with numbers like 1.75x and more, maybe this means there will be an option to change the playback speed for our music :-) i cant wait until someone gives detailed instructions how we can install this...

could it be possible that you have to install this using DFU tools, to write the .bin file directly onto the player's chip? perhaps someone could try it and tell us what happens?

I fired up strings, and quickly found out it's a fake:

S5L8700 uCOSII with DOkdo FS

The original firmware uses uCOSII. I also found a reference to Blues, which is Microsoft's WMA DRM decoding stuff, and a lote to MEIZU ELECTRONICS and MTP-mode. The similarity with the original firmware is quite large if I remember the 2.003 strings output. Maybe it's an older firmware but it's definitely a fake. Definitely an older firmware if what I believe is true, it even contains compile errors in the .bin.

BBE? wow.. if this player has software emulation of BBE sound, this player is definately going to be worth using for a longer time. (Could also be a hoax too )
