M6 SP vs M6 SL
This is a discussion on M6 SP vs M6 SL within the General Meizu M6 forums, part of the miniPlayer M6 / SL category; I just recently purchased the M6 SP DaneElec and have had it for about 3 days now. And I just ...

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsM6 SP vs M6 SL
I just recently purchased the M6 SP DaneElec and have had it for about 3 days now. And I just got the M6 SL from ebay, both new. I've had the SL for about 16 hours now.
The first thing I would like to point out is that the SL screen is horrible. The difference in screen quality of the SP is amazing.
The SP colors are crisp, vibrant and clean contrast. Even though the SL screen is supposedly brighter it doesn't show colors well at all.
The only other difference is both the brushed back and slimmer size for the SL, both of which is negligible.
There is no better sound or faster interface just a slimmer size with a degraded screen. I really like both of them but I don't understand why the SL's screen quality went down instead of atleast the same as the SP.
Anyway, I'll be selling one of them in the next week or earlier, still deciding on which one to keep.
???????SP nice screen vs SL nice slimness????????
I'll probably pick the better screen. :D

Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostHumm... I've only seen the SP on pictures, so I can't compare, but I'm quite happy with my SL's display. Did you do the comparison using the same firmware version on both your players? (I remember someone reporting that the FW version also influences screen colors and overall image quality)
To answer your question about which one to pick, I must first say that there are other advantages in the SL besides slimness:
- the hissing problem (if you experienced it with the SP) is gone, due to the new/better sound chip,
- there's no need to recalibrate the touch sensor anymore, since the new one will automatically recalibrate itself,
- new/better FM chip (better radio reception? can someone confirm?),
- less power consumption from overall hardware components (environment friendly?),
- new DFU tool for M6SL seems to be easier to use than the SP one,
- most importantly: the SL is a new model, so Meizu will probably still support it for a long time.
Before reading your comparison, my opinion was that as long as the lower 26h battery life (instead of 36h) was not a problem, the SL would be a better pick... but if there is really such a big difference in screen quality, then I'm not sure anymore.
I really have to find an SP to play around with, someday.

Thanked 1,024 Times in 375 PostsTrue, the SL's screen is nothing compared to the SP's... I still can't get used to it. (I used to have a SP)

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsOn the SL, FM is too loud even at volume 1, but it may be my phones. I don't remember the SP's FM, but I didn't complain when I had it.
And yes, I think I prefer the SP to the SL...

Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostOk, I understand the comparison now.
But I don't think the picture shows how both screens really look (you usually need to see it live), because my SL doesn't look nearly as bad as that. For example, I never noticed that blue effect on my SL screen. In fact, I think SL's screen is still better than many competing devices.
But I can confirm that there is a bit too much light on it, though.. and that makes black not really black, and dark movie scenes look bad.
Nevertheless, that picture clearly shows the difference between SL and SP... and after seeing this, I definitely have to lay my hands on an SP! :P

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postslol that looks like a really bad contrast setting for the SL
and i always regarded the black from the SP as not being entirely black (try fastforward in a video -> contrast improves on the ff-shots)
didn't expect it to be worse with the SL at allZTE Blade

Thanked 1,024 Times in 375 PostsNope, I can confirm that black on the SL's screen looks very blue-ish. Colors are much colder
I was so disappointed when I first saw it...

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThat pictures shows the difference well. Though it may not be as blue, when you put it next to the SP you can clearly see the difference and the blue color.
Well, I took both out today to get reactions from other people and it was very clear that everyone liked the SP's colors much better, not a one person favored the SL and they didn't even note the slimmer size.
As for sound quality, I've listened to both and haven't nearly heard a difference at all, no hissing whatsoever on either.
Battery life, SP lasted longer then the SL for me.
The FM works the same so far.
Basically, the SP is far superior, IMHO.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI've had tested not only the sp and the sl but iriver t10, ipod video (with rockbox and flac encoded files) , and the current touch and trust me there's nothing better sound-wise than the sl version. If you're after a pmp / video player you're wrong with both the sl and the sp version as it has a tiny screen and a low framerate. for audio purposes the sl is the best choice, despite its bad battery life especially on ogg files (its far less than the adverted 25 hrs I'd be glad to have 15)

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsHi,
I heard rumors, that SP is louder than SL version. Can someone tell me, what is the truth ?
I've already sold my SP and want to buy SL - but I'm not so sure right now (SP screen looks better, have better bass.. and if you say that SP is louder - I won't buy SL and decide to buy SP second time)Last edited by NATE; 01-31-2008 at 10:24 AM.

Thanked 1,024 Times in 375 PostsNope, SL is louder than SP. I used to listen my SP at volume level 33, and now 25 is more than enough! Also SP doesn't have better bass in my opinion.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Poststhere is almost the very same 'random' quality screen difference among SP units ; here is a picture of two M6 ; first bought august2007 , second september 2007
it is obvious that the quality consistency is not at all guaranteed by Samsung ! my guess is that these screens do not cost much and so Meizu is not in a position to set the rule (with samsung) here ...
BTW please note the very same default : one is color correct (well), the other has prominent blue
