I say buy an SL, you won't regret it, unless you're watching a lot of videos, and view pictures (color issue).

Why would you say that??? It would be pointless to have a MEDIA player if you weren't going to watch video and view photos, regardless of how little you may do it. Otherwise, just get a simple MP3 player. Not using the MEDIA player for its obvious purpose(video, photo) would negate the entire reason for it.

My suggestion without a doubt would be to stay with the SP. Matter of fact, with recent firmware upgrades, I really don't see any difference now more than ever for me. Unless, you want the slimmer size, there would be no reason to go with an SL.

Please, don't give the sound example, because I have yet, nor anyone I know with human ears have detected the even slightest difference in sound quality.

@trane: those screens are never random, they started using the new cheaper screens in the SP and of course the SL has only ever seen the new cheaper screens.

THE PURE SCREEN QUALITY MADE THE DECISION FOR ME WITHOUT A DOUBT.

On that note, I'm selling my couple of days old SL media player.

It wouldn't be pointless, because it's rather hard to find an mp3 player that sounds as good as the Meizu in it's price range. And it's considered small too, so why buy 'just and mp3 player'? And I haven't said that you cannot watch videos on it...just that the screen is not as nice as the SP's.

what??? I just explained why to buy just an mp3 player, because you said something about hardly using video and photo. Media player and hardly use it for media?? For example, if you have an off-road vehicle and hardly using it for off-road, lol.

You should spend atleast a couple of weeks looking for something, because there are much smaller only mp3 players that sound far better and even cheaper, for example the sony range of players sound far better, but the reason I got this was because of the large screen/small size and MEDIA capabilities with a neck strap positioned at the right spot.

    But to each his own.

I got my SL to play FLAC files. I have BIG issues with MP3 quality.
There's also a lot of geeky stuff one can do with this player which is cool as well. Personally I probably won't use the video much if at all.
As far as sound quality, I throw the SL into my referance sound system with no decernable audio loss. I have to tweak the user defined EQ for this purpose of course. FLAC may have somewhat larger files but if you care about size, don't talk quality. There's a reason MP3's are so small. There's only 1/3 max of the original source there! What do you expect?
    Cheers!

End-of-song-stutter still exists. I have experienced it several times already.
you will only experience such errors when you listen to mp3encoded files, but hey, I don't use mp3 at all as it is a simple waste of space. I use ogg (latest aoTuv beta) instead which sounds way better to me, at q7 it is, in most cases, totally transparent. Yet, when listening to more demanding music like Pink Floyd, some classic music or jazz I prefer using flac.

The SL version has NO hissing - ABSOLUTELY NONE. Every player I've listed above, i.e. ipod video, iriver t10 had a hissing issue, easily heard when listening to some quiet music. The SL even at the max volume level doesn't hiss at all.

I completely agree. But there is one big advantage in using MP3: longer battery lifetime. That's an important point for me, and it's the main reason why I don't use OGG.

Yes, I haven't noticed any hissing either. Even at max volume. But since I know it depends on earphones sensitivity and I still use the original PT-850 (quite good for bundled phones IMHO), I'm not the one to talk. The general public opinion as far as I could gather is "gone or heavily reduced".

And yes, I think I prefer the SP to the SL...
Is there a way to low down the FM volume in SL? As you say it's too loud at level 1.

i am glad i got the SP. i always thought the pictures and videos are nice. but i have to admit, the iPod 8GB videos looked better during the day. my friend brought his iPod and side by side comparison, the iPod video looked better. but the screen is only 2.0" vs my meizu 2.4". but at night, the meizu looked great. just during the day with bright light, the iPod does looked better.

still i wouldn't trade it for the iPod. smaller screen 2.0" vs 2.4" and being more expensive.
