THIS VERSION OF DFU TOOL WORKS ONLY FOR M6SL. IF YOU HAVE A SP OR TP VERSION (check the first 4 characters of the serial number on the back of your meizu), PLEASE REFER TO THE FAQ.
Thanks to a person here in the forum, i've received a version of DFU TOOL that works with S5L8700A02 Samsung ARM9 chip mounted on M6SL. This version appears to be more complicated than the precedent ones, with much more options, and it's made to work with any device wich has this chip. So i have spent my sunday afternoon trying to understand how this version of DFU TOOL works, and how to make it compatible with M6SL. And finally i think i've reached the goal.
I've tested the result two times on my M6SL using Win XP SP2, loading first 2.004.4 and then 2.004.5 firmware with DFU TOOL, and in both cases was a success.
But i have used my M6SL as a tester, because it was working perfectly before using the recovery program, so i don't know if this procedure works also on a broken M6SL. Anyway i'm not responsible of its use.
(Update: as you can see in the following posts, this method works also on a broken M6SL)
This version of DFU TOOL seems to be much more stable than the precedent for SP or TP (no need to try many times before it works). I don't know if it's Vista compatible.
Here how it works:
1. Extract the zip file to desktop.
2. Copy 'M6SL.EBN' to the extracted folder.
3. Power off M6SL. Hold down the 'M' button, then press and hold down 'Play' button. Continue to hold down these two buttons simultaneously while connect the player to the pc with the usb cable. Windows will detect your player as a DFU device. Now you can stop to keep pressed the buttons.
4. Windows New Hardware Wizard appears asking you if you want to install automatically or using a specific location (advanced). Select the advanced option, and put :
C:\(path to the extracted folder)\Driver
Windows must now recognise your M6SL as "Blues USB DFU"
5. Open DFU Manager. Be sure that there is only one device: "Device 1 = S5L8700 Rev.2". If not so, you have connected the M6SL to an usb hub. Disconnect or power off other usb devices connected to your pc like printer, ecc. You should get a screen like the one below that i have posted.
6. Press 'Download'. (Unlike from the previous version of the program, no anymore need to keep pressed any buttons on the M6)
7. When the 'Download' and 'Abort' buttons become gray, wait 1 or 2 minutes to be sure, then physically remove the usb cable from your PC. Perform a hard reset (Press and hold both "Play" + "|<<" buttons). After that, if a green screen appears saying 'No Resource! Please Upgrade Resource Again!', don't turn off the M6SL but reconnect it to PC →→ Copy correct resource.bin inside the M6SL →→ Unplug the usb cable from your pc →→ Power off M6SL →→ Power on
8. If the resource fail to install press and hold "Play" + ">>|" buttons and format the player, then try installing the resource.bin again.
If you want to try, let me know if it works

NOTES:
Some people tell me that the procedures to perform a hard/soft reset and to format the player are different from a M6SP or TP version. For a M6SL, follow these istructions:
- To Format the Player: Power off the player. Press and hold down first "Play" and then ">>|" buttons. Keep pressed the two buttons simultaneously until a yellow screen appears.
- To Perform a Hard Reset: Power off the player. Press and hold down first "Play" and then "|<<" buttons. Keep pressed the two buttons simultaneously until a purple screen appears.
- To Perform a Soft Reset: Power off the player. Press and hold down the "Play" button for about 20-30 seconds until, after a black screen, "loading" reappears on the display.Last edited by passero; 02-13-2008 at 03:47 PM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsseriously, is there no easier way? it seems especially ridiculous to have to hold down two buttons at the same time as when you're meant to be connecting it to the usb cable. and if you're not supposed to connect it to a USB hub then where the hang are you supposed to connect it to?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsIf you follow the istructions i've posted, you can easily recover your M6SL. It's not as difficult as it seems. This is the only method.
Some clarifications:
1) This version of DFU TOOL seems to be more stable and better than the precedent for M6 SP or TP. I've used it for testing two times: in both case was a success (2 on 2). There is no need to try several times to make it works. More easy to use.
2) Unlike from the precedent version, you have to hold down those two buttons only when you connect the player to the pc before using the recovery program. This is a common standard procedure used by many MP3 players to enter in the recovery mode. It's not as unusual or ridiculous as it might seem.
3)You can connect the player to any usb port on your pc. But only if you have connected it to an usb hub with other devices powered on, when you open DFU Manager, it's possible that they are listed as "Device 2 ", Device 3" and so on. For example, the first time that i have tried to use the program, after opening DFU Manager i have powered on my usb printer (which has a memory card reader built in) and i have noticed that it was appeared on the list as "Device 2". So i have powered it off and it disappeared from the list. I think that when you try to upload M6SL.EBN, the program try to do the same things on all devices that are in the list, so it's possible that if you have a device such as a printer in the list, maybe the program crashes. But i'm not sure because when i've used the recovery program, i 've powered off my printer to be sure.
I think an usb hub is needed only for upgrading two or more M6SL players at the same time.
Anyway, if after opening DFU manager you have a screen which is the same as what I have posted, the problem does not exist.Last edited by passero; 01-16-2008 at 10:03 PM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsHi,
I don't know the reason why, but it doesn't work.
First everything works fine: I have downloaded the DFU Tool and started the Manager. After the download, the buttons "download" and "abort" became grey. But after then, nothing happend.
- I cannot disconnect the usb cable from PC, so I just remove the cable from Meizu
- while doing a hard reset, nothing happend. I see just a black screen, no green screen.
Do you have a clue what's wrong??
Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsyes, it's normal....you must physically remove the usb cable from meizu...and as Traps says, i think you must perform a hard reset holding down those buttons for more time...
Performing a Hard Reset
Press and hold the "Play" and the "|<<" buttons together and until player turns OFF itself. All data will be lost.Last edited by passero; 01-24-2008 at 08:49 AM.

Hello!
Nice work!!!
But you wrote:
"Perform a hard reset (Press and hold both "Play" + "|<<" buttons)."
"...press and hold "Play" + ">>|" buttons and format the player, then try installing the resource.bin again."
But isn`t it so that "Play" + ">>l" stands for hard reset and "Play" + "l<<" will format the player?!
Please correct me if I`m wrong!
And one more question:
When can I put away my two fingers from the "m" and the "Play"-button?
After I have connected the player to the PC or...?!
Thanks a lot!!Last edited by Cyrus791; 01-23-2008 at 07:45 PM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsWhen the download button becomes gray after pressing (When I have tried, it takes a few seconds), M6SL.ebn is properly loaded on your player. The task of DFU tool is finished. Unplug the Usb cable, and attempts to perform a hard reset holding down first "play" and then "|<<" button. Holding both the two keys until a purple screen appears, saying "low-level formatting...please wait...". After that, see if you need to load the correct resource.bin.
It 'strange that you can't perform a hard reset...this isn't a problem of DFU Tools, but of your player. Maybe you can try to perform a hard reset several times holding down those buttons. If that doesn't work, after loaded MSL.ebn, unplug the usb cable from your PC, and simply power on your player to see if it begins to load firmware. I am not sure that without a hard reset the player will start working.Last edited by passero; 01-24-2008 at 09:40 AM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI've tried another time to see if DFU Tools works and it's always a success.
On the M6SL
- To Format the player: Press and hold down first "Play" and then ">>|" buttons. Keep pressed the two buttons simultaneously until a yellow screen appears.
- To perform a hard reset: Press and hold down first "Play" and then "|<<" buttons. Keep pressed the two buttons simultaneously until a purple screen appears.
You can stop holding down "M" and "Play" buttons after you've connected your player to the pc. (You must follow this procedure all the times you need to use DFU Tool).
The first time windows asks you to install DFU driver, all the other times you can open directly the recovery program.Last edited by passero; 01-24-2008 at 08:00 PM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThank you passero!!
I asked because in the german area they have the opinion that it isn´t different to the older M6.
But it is vice versa on the SL-version, or!?
Because on the M6 you have to press "PLAY" and ">>l" for a hard-reset and "PLAY" and "l<<" to format the player!
btw: please excuse my bad English!

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsNo problem! Yes, i have tried personally on my M6SL to perform a hard reset and format the player...i don't know if it's different from the M6, it's as i have wrote above. Maybe you could verify by yourself: make a backup of your player, and try to perform a hard reset...anyway i haven't yet understood how to perform a soft reset on my M6SL...holding down the "play" button doesn't work for me.
Update: now i've found how to perform a soft reset. See the first postLast edited by passero; 02-09-2008 at 12:48 PM.
