My M6SL starts up with freezed screen. Songs are playing normally, but all the controls are not responding. I can't even turn it off.

Thanks for the guide, it's now back on. But to make things easier for newbie, you might want to let them know where to obtain m6sl.ebn (firmware updating is not the only reason to have the player bricked).

Hey, Thank you so much for the elaborate answer about using the DFU tool. I have a pb with my Meizu and figured this should work, but the DFU tools I downloaded twice from two different locations (including this one) give me error. This one I cannot even install as it has the DFU Manager HLP Help file is missing.

Any ideas how I can get a DFU tool that actually can be installed?

Thanks a lot,

ina

It should work, try using a different computer. Also, make sure you are running Windows, and have the correct version of the DFU tools for your player (SL->SL Version, SP/TP->regular).

Try updating the firmware:

Safely Remove your player. Restart your player. Your player's screen will flash white, or stay on a steady white. Don't worry, your player isn't toast, it just shows that screen. Put your player down and don't touch it for 5 minutes.

After 5 minutes your player should have shut off by itself, and you can now restart your player.

Thank u so much passero, i tried this for 6 hours yesterday. And finally i got it. I wanted to give up. I haven't used this player in almost a year. Your instructions were fantastic. My player is now CHARGING, after showing nothing but a green screen for hours. Once again i express my gratitude. I never really got to use this player. I used it for about a week before it went buggy so it is practically still new. :D

Actually if you had a green screen, all you had to do is update the firmware, no need to go through the tedious DFU Tool procedure.

great post - worked fine with my m6sl

Thanks for the detailed instructions!
My M6SL didn't shut down properly but after flashing it with the recent firmware (from download area) using the DFUmanager everything works perfect.

Try (re)installing the bluesdfu.sys driver using the device manager (i.e. update the driver)

I can vouch for his step by step process. My meizu's wouldn't completely load. After the process, they run like new.

Thanks to a person here in the forum, i've received a version of DFU TOOL that works with S5L8700A02 Samsung ARM9 chip mounted on M6SL. This version appears to be more complicated than the precedent ones, with much more options, and it's made to work with any device wich has this chip. So i have spent my sunday afternoon trying to understand how this version of DFU TOOL works, and how to make it compatible with M6SL. And finally i think i've reached the goal.

I've tested the result two times on my M6SL using Win XP SP2, loading first 2.004.4 and then 2.004.5 firmware with DFU TOOL, and in both cases was a success.
But i have used my M6SL as a tester, because it was working perfectly before using the recovery program, so i don't know if this procedure works also on a broken M6SL. Anyway i'm not responsible of its use.

(Update: as you can see in the following posts, this method works also on a broken M6SL)

This version of DFU TOOL seems to be much more stable than the precedent for SP or TP (no need to try many times before it works). I don't know if it's Vista compatible.

Here how it works:

1. Extract the zip file to desktop.
2. Copy 'M6SL.EBN' to the extracted folder.
3. Power off M6SL. Hold down the 'M' button, then press and hold down 'Play' button. Continue to hold down these two buttons simultaneously while connect the player to the pc with the usb cable. Windows will detect your player as a DFU device. Now you can stop to keep pressed the buttons.
4. Windows New Hardware Wizard appears asking you if you want to install automatically or using a specific location (advanced). Select the advanced option, and put :
C:\(path to the extracted folder)\Driver
Windows must now recognise your M6SL as "Blues USB DFU"
5. Open DFU Manager. Be sure that there is only one device: "Device 1 = S5L8700 Rev.2". If not so, you have connected the M6SL to an usb hub. Disconnect or power off other usb devices connected to your pc like printer, ecc. You should get a screen like the one below that i have posted.
6. Press 'Download'. (Unlike from the previous version of the program, no anymore need to keep pressed any buttons on the M6)
7. When the 'Download' and 'Abort' buttons become gray, wait 1 or 2 minutes to be sure, then physically remove the usb cable from your PC. Perform a hard reset (Press and hold both "Play" + "|<<" buttons). After that, if a green screen appears saying 'No Resource! Please Upgrade Resource Again!', don't turn off the M6SL but reconnect it to PC →→ Copy correct resource.bin inside the M6SL →→ Unplug the usb cable from your pc →→ Power off M6SL →→ Power on
8. If the resource fail to install press and hold "Play" + ">>|" buttons and format the player, then try installing the resource.bin again.

If you want to try, let me know if it works

NOTES:

Some people tell me that the procedures to perform a hard/soft reset and to format the player are different from a M6SP or TP version. For a M6SL, follow these istructions:

- To Format the Player: Power off the player. Press and hold down first "Play" and then ">>|" buttons. Keep pressed the two buttons simultaneously until a yellow screen appears.

- To Perform a Hard Reset: Power off the player. Press and hold down first "Play" and then "|<<" buttons. Keep pressed the two buttons simultaneously until a purple screen appears.

- To Perform a Soft Reset: Power off the player. Press and hold down the "Play" button for about 20-30 seconds until, after a black screen, "loading" reappears on the display.
My son has a M6SL and we are having issues with the infamous 'green screen of death'.

I have followed the instructions in the original post as well as some other ones.Things tried thus far.

1. Copied the M6SL.EBN and Resource.BIN files directly to the device.
2. We have also opened the unit and disconnected the power ribbon.
3. Used DFU tools.
4. Hard restart.
5. Reformat.

First... somewhere I read in the post that 64bit machines don't play nice with the DFU tools. I would like to amend that statement to say it plumb kicks the bajeebers out of ya!

I would like to follow up on a comment made either in the original instructions or in a subsequent comment regarding the use of DFU on a vista platform.

In step 4, Vista recognised the M6SL as "Blues USB DFU" and immediately went into auto install of drivers. After not finding the drivers a screen popped up and gave three choices.

#1 was to use windows online to find a solution. #2 was to not install and be reminded next time device is connected. #3 was to ignore.

I chose #1. Vista connected to the internet and after it couldn't find a solution a screen popped up and contained an option to find the driver yourself. At this point I followed the directions in the second half of #4.

Somewhere in all the post on this subject another user had the same issue I currently have. That is after clicking 'download' I got the following error message.

"Error: Failed to get device status"

Up until this attempt tonight to use DFU tools on a 32bit platform we have been using a 64bit platform. Do we need to go back and undo the power ribbon again and try the DFU tools process? What are our options at this point?

Thanks-

Can you still turn the player on and connect it normally? If so, just put the resource.bin file from the firmware package that you got (you didn't say where it was from, maybe it could be corrupt?).

For a green screen, you would have had to format the player or rarely it can happen at random. DFU tools is something to be used after nothing else works.
