Should I buy a Meizu M6 SL? I'm not tech savvy.

I'm not very tech-savvy. Like, I'm sure I can do drag and drop with the music fine, but I'm not so sure if I could figure out converting videos or figuring out bugs/new firmware. So... is it still worth it to get a Meizu M6 SL? Will I figure this stuff out or what?

Also, do you think I'll have any problems with the player because I am left handed?

Relax. If your not tech savvy, then the bugs in the firmware shouldn't bug you, in fact they arent that bad, people just like to find the worst in anything. Meizu M6 are great little things, sound good, only video might b a problem, but im pretty sure its alot easier with the SL.

Overall, great easy to use lil mp3 player. :D

Honestly speaking, I think this product is great - if you're willing to work a little. Overall, it is quite easy to use.

However, one problem I DO have with the M6 is hissing; it only bothers me when I'm listening to quite music, and I don't particularly have a lot of quiet songs. When I mean quite music, I mean the songs where the background is on really low volume. I notice this problem mostly when its the quite part of the songs, like in some classical music songs, or when the singer sort of whispers (with no instruments in background). Otherwise, sound quality is really nice.

If anything, I think being left handed would help with using the player, since the control strip is on the RIGHT side.

Yeah - you're right. I probably wouldn't notice. As long as I don't get any black screens of death.
And yep - it makes sense that I could hold it with my left hand and control with right or something then. I guess I was thinking more about using it with one hand.
    Thanks for the quick replies!

I've got my Meizu M6 SP for more than a month now and the worst that's ever happened to it was it freezing. Its easy to fix that; rather than just let it waste its battery, hold down the return key for 10 seconds and it'd force it to shut down. Just need to turn it back on and all is well.

I've noticed you're planning to buy the SL version; since it comes with a new audio chip, I suspect many of the problems that people have here is gone, although I can't be too sure (haven't read too much about people's experiences with the SL).

Firmware: you just need to make sure you follow the instructions and all should go well. The worst issue I had with this was my player was accidentally formatted (my fault, really) and when I started up the player again, it gave me a cryptic "RESOURCE.BIN NOT FOUND" error. A quick drag and drop fixed that problem. I believe the resource.bin file is essentially the file that stores the skin for the GUI of the player; its pretty nice being able to change the skin. Keeps the player fresh ^_^

Cool - thanks. Yeah, I like that its customizable. Compared to this, iPods are so boring! I guess the whole firmware thing will make more sense once I get going.

Yep - I hope SL won't have the same problems with audio, but it may have problems of its own.

I've heard video conversion can get complicated - any opinion?

    Fencegirl,

I think the fact you are not tech-savvy actually works for, and not against you when it comes to using a Meizu :D Once you find a suite of tools (which doesn't have to be a large set) and the procedure that works for you just stick with it. Batman (script written by BobbyQ using the Mencoder core) is a good tool for converting video. Many people find it useful. You can download it from the video forum.

I don't have an SP so I don't know how the SL compares to the SP in terms of hissing. But I do know this from my personal experience, the SL has very little hissing, if you can hear any at all, even when used with sensitive earphones in a quiet room. So I don't think it should be a deal killer. The sound quality of the SL is much better than my other MP3 players, including a couple of Creative players. I don't think you can go wrong with the SL with its price.

All you need to know about Meizu is, drag and drop music into the music folder on your Meizu.

    That is all :X

You might not be tech savvy but you should practice and navigate around the Meizu to learn the controls and where is what option.

If your Meizu is from China most the time it is defaulted into chinese. You can ask here how to navigate to the option to change it to English.

Any other technical details is adjusting your EQ settings etc :X this is pretty basic stuff your suppose to do if you want to get the best out of your player. There is an option to toggle whether your output is earphones, headphones or speakers and you should select the relevant option.

For firmware updates, just download and extract the files to your meizu root folder. Unplug Meizu from pc, and start it up. That is all there is to updating firmware :X

Meizu doesn't have an Itunes software like Ipods, but you can always use windows media player if you want to sync your music list from your pc.

I don't because i manually sort the music myself :X but for a noob like you, drag drop music into music folder on Meizu should be simple enough.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the all the great replies - sorry for not responding individually. They were very helpful. I've pretty much decided on the Meizu SL for my new Mp3 player... now... Christmas be here!

Ah, and to the one who asked if I NEEDED videos, the answer would be no. But I might like to have music videos or whatever on there. Basically, I like having options.
