Well, I'm hoping on joining the large community of Meizu owners soon, but I'm having a tough time trying to decide on which version of the Meizu to buy.
So far, the only differences between them that I've heard is SL can play two additional formats, and is thinner? I'm not sure, but...
SL or SP? And why?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI voted SL, this because it actually is a new version of the m6, so why buy an old version when there is a new version. Yes, the SP might be a little bit cheaper, but the difference is not that much.

Thanked 1,049 Times in 391 Postsi vote for the SL too, altough i haven't seen one in real life, but it's basically the same player except it's thinner and has a new audio chip so... i guess size matters :D

From a couple of sellers comments I have read the M6 will stay in production but only as the Dane-Elec version.

If you got SP then It's not worth paying the money to upgrade to SL because they are minor improvements.
If your a first time buyer there are 2 things, if SP is much cheaper than a SL then it may seem attractive, or you would prefer the improvements they did in the SL.
I opted for getting SL :]

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsTo my knowledge Dane Elec. is now the distributor (exclusive?) of Meizu products in the US. So you probably won't see any SL at Amazon or Newegg until the Dane Elec. version (most likely just packaging changes) becomes available in the US. If time is of essence you may have to settle for one of the online merchants that import the SL directly from China.
Not all online merchants are of dubious nature. For example, my personl experience with JTC Electronics has been very pleasant. I'm sure many others will endorse that statement. However, if you just want to "try it out" and return the merchandise for refund in case it's not to your liking, you may have a valid concern. These smaller outlets simply don't have the same profit margins as the bigger online giants; it's difficult for them to absorb the overhead on returns.

Hey Astradam,
I also had a dilemma, but between models SL and SE (aka M7 now). I also looked into the SP version, just to make the best possible choice.
Even if I still haven't really decided, my personal poll greatly goes in favor of the SL.
Apart from the slimness and different DAC, its battery life seems to be different from the SP; some say SP lasts 20h, and the SL 26h (because of different audio decoding techniques in the SL firmware ... more on this in this thread)
So, my vote goes for the SL !

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsBTW, I also voted for the SL. The reduction in thickness is not an issue for me but the hissing in the SP is. Some people find the hissing (high noise floor) in the SP intolerable yet some don't hear it at all. I think whether it's going to be an issue for you all depends on your hearing, the sensitivity of the earphones and the genre of music you listen to.
The SL, on the other hand, all the online reviews I've read so far indicate very little, if any at all, hissing. This alone pushes me over to the SL side.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThis hiss myth is getting to me. I'm thinking about the SP because I'm hella superstitious and even more impatient but this hiss thing keeps coming up. IS it that bad?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThanks for all the replies! Looks like I'll be going SL.
As for the hiss, from what I read it only comes from MP3's with no silence at the end of the track. People say they barely hear it though, I think one person said they only heard it on about 2% of their songs.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI would love to give you a yes or no answer, unfortunately everyone seems to have different experiences with this hiss thing. Sometime ago I did a search on this forum as well as the Chinese Meizu forum, and also on the head-fi.org forum, the following is my finding.
Based on the information gathered I think the consensus is that
1) Yes, the SP hisses, just as all portable DAPs do. It's just that SP seems to have a higher noise floor (hissing in the background) than some other DAPs, for instance, the Cowon D2 also hisses but to a (much?) lesser degree.
2) The million-dollar question is: can you hear it? That, as stated in my previous post, depends on many factors, including the earphones (highly sensitive IEM's are more susceptible), your hearing, genre of music (the hissing is easier to detect when listening to classical and relatively quiet passages) you listen to, etc. Sorry, the only way to find out is to get your hands on an SP.
That's why I voted for the SL, at least it's known to have much less hissing.
