    This or that?

i've been thinking about a new DAP to buy, and i cannot decide between the new Creative Zen or the M6 Meizu SL...i like the lyric support and text viewer of the meizu, but i like thr zen's 16gb player, which would satisfy me more.
    i cannot decide, help!

btw, is the 8gb sl released? i cannot find it on any sites...

I've been thinking about the same. But the videoquality of Sl seems to be a bit inferior. Reviews on M6SL?
    EDIT: Oops see below

    Actually please note that
    1) the reviewer was comparing the the M6SL and the M6, not the SL and Zen.
    2) I have read a dozen reviews of the SL on the Chinese Meizu site: www.meizu.com and other sites such as www.erji.net (sorry they are in Chinese) and I don't see a definitive consensus on the video/screen quality of the SL versus M6SP. In general everyone agrees that
    • the SL's display is brighter and has a wider viewing angle.
    • SL has slightly colder (toward blue) and the SP has slightly warmer (toward red/yellow) colors. Both models use TFT screens from Samsung.
    • Some say they observed a slight veiling effect on the SL's display, but some claim the SL display is better than that of SP I think you have to decide for yourself on this one.
    • Because of the SL's brighter display, it's visible in bright lighting conditions such as daylight, not so with the M6's display.
    3) No offense but personally I would read that review with a grain of salt. The reviewer makes a claim that the battery life of the SL is 10 hours less than that of the M6 without actually running a test, while every other review reveals the SL has close to 25 hours of battery life after running the test, which is only one hour short of the claim by Meizu (26 hours). And these reviewers were running with higher bit rates and higher volumes than the environment specified by Meizu. I don't believe the M6 is getting 35 hours of run time out of a single charge. If people are getting that kind of battery life on the M6 then please do share with us and accept my apologies.

    Just my two cents.

I didn´t read the review carefully enough! i meant videoquality compared to the M6.
I assumed nitesamba has got an old M6.

I hope you realized that the Creative Zen supports xvid/divx, but with the M6SP, you need to convert video files into a supported format and size.

Yeah, it seems the release of 8GB SL is delayed. A lot of the reviewers in China also wanted to buy the 8GB but were sent the 4GB version. But Meizu promises to exchange the 4GB for 8GB units later. We will see how it goes.

Hmm... I thought the M6SP does support XviD, which is compliant to the MPEG4 standards. And I'm sure the SL supports both Xvid and DivX. You must be thinking about some other Chinese MP4 players requiring the .AMV format.

The conversion is necessary because the SP and SL only support XviD (and DivX) videos encoded with the correct parameters, such as frame rate, data rate and screen size. Honestly video isn't SP or SL's strong suit anyway. 320x240 at 20fps isn't exactly what I call high quality video. And for that matter, Zen isn't that great for video either, IMO. :D

You have my consensus on that as an MP3 (music) player the SL probably has the best of both SP and M3. Based on the reviews I read on the Chinese sites almost everyone agrees the SQ of the SL is an improvement (perhaps not substantially) from SP - smoother highs and mid-range. The bass is not as pronounced but still has the impact with sufficient quantity, wider sound stage and no hissing. Hissing is what's holding me back from purchasing the M6 (SP), as tempting as it is with all the recent price reduction and rebates.

The SL's battery life is not too shabby either, better than that of the M3.

The M3 has a brighter display that is clearly legible in daylight, which is essential if you plan to use the player outdoors at all, so does the SL.
