My Meizu saturate hard like garbage sound...

Hi everybody,

I own a white miniplayer 8GB since last week,
i have big problems with the quality of the sound on my Meizu
when the volume is high (around 40)

For instance : if I play a Cypress Hill track with the initial sounds effects on the Meizu with my AKG K171 studio Headphones (excelent headphones), at highest volume : the result is that the track sounds just like crap, it's saturating ...

This problem can not come from the Mp3 file while it sounds perfect on an ipod.

Do you think it is a hardware problem, like the sound card is defective ?
or do you have the same thing on your Meizu ??
I first thought it was a matter of sound effect setting, but in fact its even worst
with the spatializer on, and the bass boost at 0

I'm about to send back my miniplayer to the customer service to have it change or repaired. it makes me pretty mad.

Thanks for your answer

( PS : hope my english is understandable, english is not my mother tongue )

Try your mp3 file on a lower volume settings. I think on many mp3 players, the sound will start to distort badly if using the maximum volume. Try volume below 20 and the volume between 20-30.

If it still distorts, could possibly be your headphones, your audio file (try playing it on your computer) and last but not least a defective Meizu M6. In which case, yes return it.

i ve just read a thread on the french section of meizume talking about this
problem of distortion at high volume and it seems to be the same for every M6.
so my meizu is not defective. i just have to play songs at average volume.
but when i m in the bus i need to have a high volume ... the solution could be to use intra auricular headphones.

I really hope your ears are ok lol, if you're using your headphones on the bus at full blast, your ears are being subjected to above safe SPL levels.

You really dont need to use 40 volume unless u have high impedence headphones like the Sennheiser HD650 which is ~300 ohms. For the bus, I would definately recommend you getting some IEMs, and retrain your listening volumes (ie. your ears) to less than 10.

IEMs are in ear monitors. They are like ear-plugs and go into your ear canals. 55 ohms is a bit high. Try getting somthing with like 10-20 ohms.

my koss KSC-75 are 60 ohms, and i never found a reason to use them above volume 12 on my Meizu M6. They are highly efficient clip-ons though.

As for your Creative EP-630, you could have done better. I don't favour the EP-630 at all. Perhaps you should have read my thread on what canalphones to buy =P

Well, i still can go back to the shop and have my Creative EP-630 change for the Koss Spark plug since they are the same price.
Do you think the Koss are better ?

Koss sparkplug are just as horrible as the EP-630, they're somewhat blurry and muddled, overpowered with bass.

What type of music do u listen to?

I've noticed the same with my Koss Sparkplug, does the EP-630 is also an earphone that not act as a monitor but interpret certain type of sound, I mean acting as a EQ?.
When somebody deals with several type of music, is really annoying to have the need of change your earphones depending of what are you going to listen to.

Well i think the sparkplug and ep-630 are "pre-equalised" but because they are done so in an unrefined manner it makes them sound bad, unless you really love your bass and nothing more. and yes, it is really annoying to use different headphones for different types of music, but you don't really need different types of headphones to really enjoy music =) just listen to what you like and enjoy. OR.. just buy the highest end IEM/headphone in the world and you won't ever need an upgrade =P

@Panda
For 50USD, I would recommend you try the CrossRoads Mylar3, cheap and sounds great for the money in my opinion.
