Tempted to buy an M6 But some Issues for Me

Hey, ive read the feedback and that for M6 and I am hell tempted to buy one, however there are a few issues for me...

    - Lack of / slow firmware developement
    - Video doesnt work properly
    - SE edition coming soon
    - Possibility meizu will abandon m6 development with launch of m8

did any one else have these worries? and what do you think

    hey pal,

I am going to buy my M6 tomorrow, and I am having quite the same toughts... but the longer i think about it, i think these problems could be understood as complaining at a high level.

1.) at the moment there is only slow development... but there IS development... most/many other players are produced, and then never updated... (with the SE comming out, i think there will be more development again)
2.) are you sure abour this? as far as i remeber you only had to encode them properly
3.) which will be thinner, but will also have a shorter uptime... (not that good from my point of view)
4.) anything is possible... even meizu putting the FW under open source :D

If you're holding out for the SE, I would just get a M6 now. I was holding off myself but from what I read I think the SE won't be coming out till next year sometime after M8 is done. If Meizu wants to survive as a company they will continue to work on the M6 firmware which as of now is their bread and butter for income. I admit that there hasn't been an update in awhile, but it has been stated by CEO that two engineers are working on the firmware atm. So at the very least we'll see some kind of improvement, unless these engineers are totally inept. If these bugs are an issue for you, you might hold off till next firmware release which should be next month. Otherwise, like for me, I did a lot of reading of what the major problems were and came to the concluision the good out weighs the bad along with the faith that Meizu will work at fixing the bugs.

I agree with Perseo. The video that I get on the M6 is the best I've seen for something of its size/weight/price (which the main reason why I got the M6 in the first place). Plus with the firmware upgraded to the current version, I'm getting about 7 hours of video play time per battery charge.

tERROR, you need to stick around longer. I've been around since the beginning of December, and there hasn't been anything new other than album art that's somewhat difficult to get to work, a spectrum analyzer that kinda sucks, and... *strains to come up with another* oh, gif support. OH, and now we have a back option in the menu after waiting about 2 months for the promised better firmware, and the head of Meizu apparently ditching OTG support.

Aside from that, when the player is working, it sounds awesome. Viewing text is nice, and pictures too. Haven't really used the video much because of the confusion in what you have to do just to get a fluidly moving video of decent quality with the sound synced properly, but I like that feature, too. I hope that Meizu will just realize they aren't making their fans happy and make a turn around for the better.

I also think they should really take a good look at the iPhone and see just how badly it's seeming to suck at the moment, with services that charge you without you knowing (unless you read the fine print), bugs that allow outside sources to tap into the phone and make calls to paid numbers and give you a nice bill made to them, and bugs that let outside sources cause your phone to go into an endless dialing loop. And did I mention the 3-400 page bill you get because they can't figure out how to put "Text messaging- $X.XX" instead of showing you a charge for every single message you send or receive... that's just plain bullshit, you know. Even if you text too much a month, a whole company should be able to figure out how to add those charges into a single line showing the amount.

I think they should keep their focus on the M6 series, or they might lose too much business by dropping the M6 for the M8.

HOLY SHIT!!! @.@ My fucking GOD!!! Wow, I laugh at all those people that stood in line for days for a $600 phone that rips them off to hell and back while doing less than a laptop at the price and a calling card or 10.

    @ DChronos

I agree with you, that I am kinda new to this whole "scene" and thus have not as much knowledge as you do. But comparing the Meizu to a lot of players in it's class, I still like to stick to my opinion, that even having the tinyest bit of development is an exceptional good move. (although opening up the firmware to the open source community/the rock box project would be a lot better for both sides.)

    @ iPhone topic
c'mon... don't tell me that you don't realize, that the Iphone is coded this way on purpose. the carriers don't want to sell ppl stuff that makes them aware of how much they spend on telecommunication.
btw, they are charging you for _receiving_ text (eg. from the short message service [SMS]) messages?

because of such behavior i stick to sony ericsson phones since a few years - not that they are any better than a nokia or anything else, but there is a open source software (FMA) that allows you to remotly controll almost any aspect of the phone (writing text messages on any PC, archive for messages, update your phonebook on the computer, showing the charging status, the reception strength from the carrier, multiperson SMS, and finally remote controlling your pc...).
This open source software is the only reason I am owning my 3rd sony ericsson now - and that's excactly the same effect, that Meizu would get, if they release their firmware...

I was also deciding whether or not to wait out for the M6-SE or just purchase the current M6. I decided to take the plunge and bought a 8GB M6 last week. After a week of fiddling around w/the features... all I can say is, this is one of the best MP3 players I've come across. There are a few quirks that take getting used to, but all-in-all you shouldn't be disappointed with the price and the product. I would recommend purchasing the M6 now, I certainly don't regret my purchase.

I still think the M6 is a damn good player. The only thing that keeps holding it back is buggy firmware. That's it. Look at pics of the inside and you see how well the hardware must have been engineered to fit a 1.25x1.75 inch board with a few thinner folded board parts on ribbon cables.

Iverson, who are you talking to? If it's me, I could go count the number at the English site, then tell you how many I actually saw any changes happen on, and tell you how few of those actually mattered, then tell you the number of things still wrong that have been, and how many updates there have been since they've been known. I could also guess the number of unanswered help posts at the site most people would try first for help that don't read Chinese.

But yeah.. look around, most of us know there is something not right going on. We mostly still love the player, but wait until you have something you spent a week's worth of total pay on die for no reason. Despite that, I will still probably go with another (that is, the M6SE)... if I hear it's better and not bug ridden.
