    Preventing Indexing of Files

Hi, I have several MP3 files that I don't want indexed by the player's library (I only want them to be accessible through browser). However, I think placing MP3s anywhere cause them to be detected. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

maybe remove the .mp3 extension? the player wont see it as a music file but it will as a file
not sure if the player will recognize its supposed to play it as music through the browser in that case though.... just a guess here

Player them outside the "Music" folder. (That works) , create a folder called music 2 or somthing
Click the little (+/-) button next to someone to reward or punish someone

Yep, just place the files not intended to be detected outside the Music folder will do.

Nope - placing the files outside the music folder has no effect. I have files inside \STORAGE and \DATA and both folders are indexed. The only way I've found is to put them inside \RECORD, but that's a pretty crappy solution because they still show up in your player, just under "My Recordings" instead of their usual artist. This is on the latest firmware that always auto-updates the music library (2.003.2)

Hi, i've got the same problem ! i dont want my files to get indexed everytime, cuz i got nearly 7gb of mp3 files and everytime even if i add a single mp3 or even connect it to the computer is data mode, it indexes it all over again.

This gets really annoying as it takes quite a while to do it.. So is there any option to disable it or any tip/trick unheard of ?

    Thanx,
    Jazz

Updating of music library on startup.

    Hi guys,

I have the US Dane Elec 4GB m6.

After upgrading the factory firmware to the meziu v2.003.2, i started getting the 'update music library' every time i disconnected it from my computer.

I spent some time with this and found a way to 'fix' it. (YMMV)

After i copy/modify files and place them on the m6, i turn off the archive bit (file attribute) for the files affected.

HINT: an easy way to unset the archive bit for all the files on your m6 is to do the following:

    1. Copy any single file to the root folder
    2. Select all the folders and that file
    3. Right-click, select properties
    4. Put a check in the archive box and then uncheck it
    5. Click ok, and 'apply changes to selected items, subfolders, and files'
    6. Delete the file you put in the root folder

For the first time you disconnect after a change, the library will be updated (completely and still a slooowww process if you have lots of files).

But, from here on out (until you make any changes to the music library), when you reconnect or charge or power on, the library update will only take a couple of seconds (searching for changes) if it does occur at all.

    i hope that helps.

    Nice workaround!
Even faster is a command line version / batch file - my player is F:
    F:\attrib -a /s

I thought it did the job, but not consistently ;(
The M6 still updates, usually after some off-time. Was in the bus after work this morning and wanted to listen to some music... update! Was halfway to the station before I could listen.

    This non-feature sucks big time!
I read somewhere this is a new feature... could I revert to an older fw which does not do this? If so, which one?
I am willing to sacrifice some improvements to get this out.

Good news ! BatMan can do this job now automatically for you in the background. Whenever you transfer a video with BatMan's "transfer" mode, ALL of your files will be quickly (<1 sec) scanned for archive bits and corrected if needed (even hidden files). :D
