    DFU Tools

DFU Tool is applied when the MP3 player can't connect to the computer or ceases function properly. Sometimes this is included in the bundled CD, check if you have it before downloading.

I've heard that you have to put the firmware files (.bin and .ebn) in the DFU folder installation to get it working properly. I think it was liquidsense who posted this (i wont take credit for the post )

I tried using the DFU tool for the SP version but somehow it doesn't work. Is the current DFU only for TP?

Place the M6.EBN into the DFU Server folder.
Hold down the M key and then press and hold down the Power\Play button. (IMPORTANT:You need to keep both buttons pressed through the entire proceedure) then connect your player via usb.
Windows will detect your player as a DFU Server and open the driver installation window.
Choose "Install from a list or specific location", in the next window choose "Search for best drivers in these locations" and "Include this location in the search" and browse to the DFU Server Folder.
Once the driver is installed run Secdfu.exe
    You should see the following.

Press the download button to begin loading the firmware.
Once complete disconnect the player and turn it on.
If you need to install the resource.bin connect the player and copy it to root then reboot the player.
If the resources fail to install press and hold Power\Play+>> and format the player then try installing the resource.bin again.

Doesn't seem to work for me.. Can't even install the driver it kinda gets stuck at 100%. So I killed the install and now it mounts as DFU device but when i press downalod in the DFU tool nothing happens and the program doesn't respond. Guess I need to properly install the driver but how can I do that now?
(Yes I'm not a windows person, using my parents computer for DFU)
I'd really apprechiate some help! Thanks!

The first time I tried to install to the m6 from DFU tools it failed partway through. The next time I attached it (while pressing ON/OFF + M), the hardware installation window did not open, but I was able to find the DFU device by selecting "My Computer" properties, going to Devices, finding the DFU device under the USB section, and then choosing to reinstall the device from the DFU tools directory. After that it mounted properly as a USB device and I was able to upgrade the firmware.

    How did you succeed?
I have the Loading.... freeze problem on my SP unit. I've tried DFU tools a number of times (Hold power + M, connect USB cord... launch DFU tools and hit enter)
Every time it got to Enumerating... and my computer stopped seeing the unit as a DFU server (no longer listed under device manager).

I downloaded DFU tools which must have had an older version of M6.bin and I got the white screen which I believe means I downloaded the wrong FW version. So I redid the DFU tools sequence with the most up to date FW and now I get a "ERROR: failed to communicate with device" and if I try to run it again I get a "ERROR: failed to verify device firmware"

Would love a fix - I like the unit when it works but I've now spent hours trying to get it to work and am starting to think its not worth it.

I have a DAB radio that uses DFU to update the firmware. I have never been able to update it using my PC because of an 'issue' with USB ports on non Intel motherboards. Apparently the solution is to either use an Intel based PC (I borrowed a friends laptop and updated the radio without problem) or buy a PCI USB card and connect to that (I haven't tried this method so fingers crossed!)
I'm sorry but I can't remember where I read about this, but it worked for me and hopefully it will help other people.

be sure to have the firmware you want re-installed in the folder where you have the DFU tools installed

also, press and hold both power and M...and KEEP holding them all the way through the process. So you might be pressing them for a few minutes
Dont release the power and M button untill the firmware is back installed

    for a short list see:MiniPlayer M6 Dead?
