Well, that has been stated explicitly in FAQ and in forum threads.

    Sigh.

Stupid question, but ... I don't have an M key on my player (M6). Pressing play and holding down different parts of the finger slider (top, bottom, left, right) doesn't do anything.

FWIW, my player is locked onto the "Connected to USB" screen. It's really not connected, of course. It won't hard reboot, either. It's just stuck on "Connecting to USB." I can't even do a hard reboot, even though the player clicks when the slider is touched.

I've managed to use the DFU tools on my M6 it's now at the stage where is shows up as a usb device . Windows requires i format my M6 in order to install the resource file . Show i do this , if yes should i format as FAT or FAT32?

Why don't you let the player do the formatting? Disconnect it from the computer and power it off. Hold fast forward and On/Off button at the same time until the "Formatting Please Wait..." screen comes up.

This should get you where you need to be. From my experience, you'll need to reinstall both the M6.EBN and resource files for a reformat.

It just goes into the same folder that you created where you installed the program. Just drag and drop the M6.EBN and resource files into that root folder. I recommend using older firmware, ie. 1.009 or 1.001.x. This seems to work better at recovering players. Upgrade the firmware after recovery.

    Crashed M6

Thanks for the SP version of DFU Tools. It looks like I have to start from scratch again, but at least I don't get the white screen anymore.

with Vista you shouldnt need and DFU tools
Vista recognizes the player as an external device and yous hould be abe to open the play and reinstall firmware without the use of any DFU tools

check here Vista and DFU tools? DFU not needed on Vista?

I have Vista and it's not working for me. I tried to do the firmware update and im getting a green screen with stating 'No Resource!' 'Please upgrade resource again'. When i plug in my player i get the "Found New Hardware" window. I click "Locate and install driver software" it then asks for a disk, which i don't have with me, i then click "Check for a solution". I finally get "Windows was unable to install your MiniPlayer"

aha... in thatcase there is a simple solution

turn on the player till you get the "upgrade resource again". cennect to PC, open player on pc and copy paste the resource(not the m6.ebn!) file again

thats right...copy the same resource file you just copied to your player again

now restart your player and it will probably work
    no need for DFU

that and readyboost are 2 of the cool functions of Vista

The problem with that is, when i connect my device it's not listed under "Devices with removable storage", where it was before. When i connect it asks about the driver
