MacBook, M6, USB Mounting & Initializing Probs.

    Greetings,

It's been quite a while since I visited this site. Since last I wrote I've had moderate success using my Miniplayer M6-SL. When it is working it performs great. But about once every other month something goes wrong when I'm trying to recharge it or update music and I end up losing all my files. So I end up having to reload everything more often than I think should be necessary. Nevertheless I am not in a position to get a new MP3 and for my purposes my little M6 works adequately.

As mentioned in other posts I'm a Mac user, which has added to some of the difficulty trying to use the M6. Recently someone gave me a MacBook running OS X 10.5.8. Quite an upgrade from my old iBook G4 that runs OS X 10.4.11. For the most part I've been using the new MacBook for all of my computer needs.

Today I ran into a snag with one of the files on my Miniplayer. When I plugged it into the MacBook via the USB cable the M6 would not mount. I've run into this problem occasionally and end up having to unplug then replug it in a couple of times. This has not worked this time after several attempts and unplugging and replugging. I even tried running the software "Mount Me!" which normally detects all mountable drives plugged into your computer, but even it cannot recognize the M6.

In frustration I tried resetting the unit by pressing and holding the play function (>||), but resetting didn't help. Then I figured I'd do the last resort and initialize the M6 to it's default settings in order to get it to mount. When I pressed and held the "Next" function (>>|) for 8 plus seconds according the the User's Manual, nothing happened. I've even tried swapping out USB cables in case the first one was bad.

As things stand presently I can't mount my Miniplayer and I can't initialize it to it's default factory setting. I'm kind of stuck. I'd rather not have to dig out my old iBook every time I want to update my files on my Meizu. Any suggestions what I might do to get my M6 working with my MacBook again??

    Thanks for your assistance.

    Sincerely,

    Cpt. Buff

P.S. In case you're wondering, yes, the M6 was "ON" when I plugged it in via the USB cable.

To reset your M6 to factory settings, you have to keep the button pressed while it's turning on ("Loading ..." screen). I'm no mac expert, but I remember this topic coming up several times here and I think there was a solution. You should be able to find this with the search engine.

You need to press and hold both PLAY (>||) and FF (>>|) buttons together to perform a Hard Reset.
