New look for Meizu shops in China

In Haikou, capital of Hainan province (often called "The Hawaii of China"):

    In Shenyang, capital of Liaoning:

    In Suzhou, in Jiangsu province:

OK, that last one in Suzhou isn't so hot...and yeah, notice the Photoshopping

Meizu is featuring these shops on the "Where To Buy" page for the M8. You could say they are low-budget ripoffs of the Apple Store style, but hey, at least they're trying to introduce a more customer friendly atmosphere and cohesive brand identity. The current black & blue or black & white themes are OK, but in China both Apple and Sony also use black & white signage and displays for their shops in the electronics malls. For that reason alone, it's a good move on Meizu's part to differentiate themselves.

Blue, black and wood. Works much better than before.

I'm glad they're experimenting with the retailing atmosphere.
Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

I personally think the retail space looks really good!

Makes a change from the 'stack 'em high' and/or 'hard sell' philosophy that we have here in the UK.

long live Meizu and Jack wong!

Where I bought my M6, it was from a stand selling all sorts of stuff, including an oppo clone of the M6. Good thing I picked the former.

Meh, what can you do? Sony store, well, that's all I can think of. You want to provide a good shopping experience for your customer so they would like to come back.

Now, all they really need to improve is their support experience.

Actually, Apple's Support isn't bad at all, but expect to pay more fixing something than actually buying a new one...

That too, but I was referring to Meizu. Their service department is basically non-existent, and international customers rely on us to help them with their technical issues. In China, when you go to "Electronics City", what they call the biggest electronics selling plaza in the city, you'll easily find help from a third party. Cheap, too. The only thing you must be careful about is reliability.

For example, when I was in China two years ago when my Sony camera's CCD malfunctioned in Canada, I got it fixed in a day for just 50CAD at the time. In Canada, the official Sony service costs 60CAD plus shipping and handling just for a diagnostic, just to figure out what was wrong, even though the guy in China saw what was exactly wrong in a second. I knew what was wrong when it malfunctioned too, but service here is just pretty useless.

I mean, come on, when you have a computer issue, how come when you call tech support, someone in India picks up the phone? Yes, I'm talking about the people who know nothing about computers and just read off a sheet for basic diagnostics. Then, when it comes time to solve it, you'll have to go to the Geek Squad or whatever local store you have to solve it?

Now, before taking over this thread as my own rant topic, I'm stopping.

That, JkPwNsTeR, is exactly why we have the term disposable society.

Heh, Chengdude is probably the only other member of this forum that bothers to type "JkPwNsTeR" out, capitalization and all.

Either that or he copy and pastes my name and clicks the ever so helpful "Remove Hyperlink" and "Remove Text Formatting" buttons. I actually have no idea why I created my nickname like that. Just looks kind of annoying now. Hopefully, now whenever you see one of my posts, you will not think of porn. Wait, why did I even bring that up...

Now featured on the "Where To Buy" page is this shop in Dongying, Shandong:

Unlike most Meizu retailers in the electronics markets and malls, this one looks to be a "freestanding" store along a street.

    A couple more:

First in Chengdu (hey, like me!):

That's looking kind of sad & dreary...the space is terrible, though.

Much better is this one in Hangzhou:

Hangzhou is one of the wealthiest cities in China, so they had better get it right. BTW, love the shop next door advertising the iPhone 3G...easy comparison shopping

Hey, the one in Chengdu is in the same place where I went over the summer! They call it "Dian Nao Cheng", which translates to "Computer City". There are about, erm, 4 main ones?

Yeah, "computer city" is the general term in China for any area where people go to buy electronics. In Chengdu, the two newer buildings on opposite corners of Yihuan Lu and Renmin Nan Lu are the best ones. Frankly, electronics shopping in Chengdu is the best I've seen in China...better than Shanghai, for sure, although I haven't been to Zhongguancun in Beijing.

Uh, yeah, because it's the global site; they're not going to be listing shops in China with English translations.

And people wonder why Meizu gets accused of being an Apple clone? Maybe in the future they shouldn't sell them in same shop...and put the Meizu and Apple signs right next to each other
