    The death of MP3 players?

During the last 5 years or so, I have been feeling that mobile phones were increasingly taking over the functions of the MP3 player. The release of the iPhone was a key milestone; for the first time a mobile phone had the same music playing capabilities as an iPod. Other firms follow and focus more on the development of the music player in their phones. It feels that the death of the specialized MP3 player is imminent.

Can anyone actually consider getting an MP3 player at this time? If so, for what reason(s)?
Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

Pro mp3-player: small, light-weight, cheap (if it breaks it won't hurt your wallet that much), and if it runs out of energy: No need to worry about other things (receive/get a call, writing text messages, ...)

So nowadays there are still a lot of reasons to buy a single mp3 player in my opinion.

I think that PMPs (portable media players like the m6, iPod touch) will vanish sooner! Big display, maybe touchscreen, good battery, ... so they are very similiar to current mobile phones ... conclusion: Mobile phones will have all the features of PMPs and outsell them.

It still makes sense to get an mp3/4/5/w.e player since a phone is just a phone, a PMP should just be a PMP, and specialized gadgets are usually better in their own areas then something that's combined.

I've seen many, many people in China just use their Nokia cell phones or the Chinese cell phones as their primary music player, probably since they don't want to spend extra money on something that does nearly the same thing.

It still makes a lot of sense to combine gadgets though, since many people and I don't like to carry a gadget for organization, a gadget for entertainment, a cell phone for calling, and maybe even a netbook for surfing the web.

The only problem with combining electronics is battery life. I mean, what are you going to do when you have low battery life because you've been listening to music for the past few hours? Not take your calls?

I don't know guys. I think the Mp3/4/5 is still very much alive. I have a few of said items and I also have the walkman version of a sony ericsson phone. Even though I have that on my phone, I still go out of my way to bring my M6 or D2 with me when I wanna listen to music. I just prefer it for some reason. I am starting to hate my SE software to be honest.

I don't know why, but those extra features on the Meizu and dedicated players are so useful that you don't really want to switch to something below it.

    mp3 player dead?not at all!

I have M6 couple of years, and some others.I value the Miniplayer because on sunny hot day,I can stick it in my shirt pocket and listen to music!Nothing else fits there, its really credit card size, light and easy to control.
I never listen to music through mobile, mostly - cause they require proprietory
earphones and I want to use mine own:crossroads,or denon....and mobiles do not give you any control about sound, they are big and heavy, its place is in
pants pocket and its too far from my ears!(wires to long).BlueTooth?I do not
know any good headphones with BT - do you?any recomendations?

If you have a Sony Ericsson, these wireless earbuds have good reviews but are pricey at ~200USD. Also, Sony has quite a lot of good cell phones, but most of them are of the "traditional" type.
