    Meizu is better than Apple?

My opinion on why Meizu's products are better than Apple's is because:

    1. More customizable
    2. Cheaper
    3. Work basically the same (and better than) as Apple's
    4. Meizu products feel more solid to me
    5. Works on all platforms
    6. Works as a flash drive out of the box

meh, I can't think of any other things off the top of my head. Feel free to reply though.

Meizu still needs some subtle improvements though, such as being able to use the device while it's charging. Frustrating when it runs out of battery in the car and my 12V USB Car charger makes it temporarily "bricked". (I like my 1000 songs, and not a huge CD changer please)

Also, I like the individuality that comes with the Meizu. Who says it has to be Apple? Literally no one in my city has a Meizu simply because it isn't mainstream. Another reason for them is that the price they sell it at here is MORE expensive than an iPod nano. I bought mine in China which was 29 USD cheaper than the iPod nano, just because it feels different.

Meizu products also don't require any bloated software, like iTunes, and the random services and startup entries it comes with.

Hey! It's good to know there's someone else out there that feels the same way JkPwNsTeR! I'm tired of the mainstream. Everyone around here in Seattle uses Apple products - I constantly see everything from macbooks to iphones.

Interesting to see that Apple hasn't seemed to try and file suit against Meizu for some odd reason...

I guess why I have never used Apple again, was because of an iTunes update that crashed my PC. It was a painful 3 day backup process from a boot-up disc (who backups anyways?). It was the only major problem I have had with any of Apple products, but when it crashes your computer? Forget it.

I agree on the most part, but Meizu really should pay more attention to their firmware part. There are at least 2 bugs with M6 SL. And I have no hope, they will fix it.

Have to agree with pinata. Meizu has better sound quality and better format support but their FW is simply not as good as the ipod. Video playback is also worse at only 20fps and is also sometimes difficult to convert files without getting problems like A/v desyncing. Meizu's file conversion software tool is also a lot worse than apples. The M6 and M3 both still have annoying glitches after years on the market.

I have wanted to get an M3 for the gym for a very very long time but with that track skipping issue I won't buy one, it's just not acceptable to me.

Meizu simply cannot test apple when it comes to software, apple are one of the biggest computer manufacturers in the world and they make arguably one of the best and most advanced operating systems in the world too. All their products have great software which is way way more advanced than anything Meizu can do. The comparison is slightly unfair IMO.

Well MacOSX and later are based on linux, whilst advanced, its not something that apple invented themselves

I too would have to agree that in general, apple mp3 players are tested more thoroughly before being released to the public. Their DAP OS's are mostly stable and don't suffer from many of the common bugs we see featured on some meizu devices. Although I do not have any problem with my M6, some people do.

When it comes to judging DAPs, an important concept to consider is price. Would you pay 200 dollars more for something that is near flawless? or would you settle paying less for a device that suits your needs with bugs that do not affect you? Simple questions like that and some research usually lead to the correct decision.

As with most devices you really do get what you pay for (well I think so anyways!).

Sorry for the OT but I have to clear this up before people start to repeat this BS.
Mac OS X is NOT based on GNU/Linux, it's based on Mach which is a microkernel with a couple BSD extensions. This is second time I read such things and it blows my freaking mind. Linux, Solaris, BSD, Mac OS X are completely different OSes, they are just based on the same principles.

I hope Meizu is really going to release the phone this year, otherwise I'll get myself an iPhone, Openmoko GTA03 or an adroid device.
I have to agree with some of you guys that the firmware is a really important thing in a mp3 player and Meizu simply couldn't deal with it in the past. Windows CE is a real OS and I have no clue what they will come up with at the day of release.

What are you talking about they couldn't handle it? Every device has bugs. Meizu hasn't been able to work on the firmware update because of the M8, not because they couldn't handle it.

BTW: Mac OSX is based on UNIX.

Compare Meizu firmware with iPod, iRiver, Cowon or other companies software. It doesn't matter that they had to work on M8. End users don't care about the fact that companies don't have enough man power but they just want to get a finished product.

It's kinda obvious that Mac OS X is based on Unix, I just wrote that in my previous post. Linux is a reimplementation of POSIX standard while Mac OS X is more like UNIX itself since BSD has a lot of code taken from the original OS developed by AT&T Bell Labs.

Ahh unix it is, well i do apologise for my apparent lack of knowledge (and interest) in Apple's operating systems. I've just probably read about it once somewhere, and left it there.

And hope your mind isn't blown up yet.

I have iPods, and I have a Meizu.

What I Like about the Meizu:

I do really like the sound quality of the Meizu. It is much better than the iPod's, but I can't firgure out why. The hardware in the iPod (Wolfson DAC) should be very high quality, but the end result is average. One of these days I'm going to try the DiyMod for my iPod. I'm hoping that would vastly improve the SQ. I also like how the Meizu is more open in the sense that there is no iTunes like program to keep you locked in. The vast support for file types is also good. I also like how it's relatively cheap, and is small.

What I dislike about the Meizu:

Firmware upgrades need to be better. I have followed the directions exactly everytime I upgrade my player. The first couple of times, it was fine, but then things start to go screwy. Every once in a while, the firmware upgrade completely screws up my Meizu, so I have to DFU it. With the iPod, upgrading is as simple as clicking the Update button and waiting patiently. With the Meizu, it's pulling-your-hair-out suspense. I also like the refinement in Apple's iPod, which is missing in Meizu's player. The GUI is clunky and slow, loading a playlist on the Meizu takes about 5 Minutes, and the Video is often Off-Sync. Meizu also needs to add more video format support, and possibly AAC support for people who convert from Apple worship. The iPod has many more games, but you have to pay for them. It also has Rockbox, iPod Linux, and a complete theme support (Although not by Apple), while the Meizu can only really theme by changing the backround and some basic icons. With iPod Wizard, you can change Everything the menu layouts, what each menu contains, etc.

That's all I can come up with now.
If you are having trouble with your player, please visit this thread first and try the steps before you panic. Most likely you will be able to fix your player easily using the steps listed.

Players: Meizu M6 SP 4GB, iPod Touch 4G
Headphones: SoundMAGIC PL-50s, Auvio In-Ear Armatures, Bose QC-15s.
Current Audio Congifuration: X-Fi Elite Pro w/LM4562 Mod -> Mission MS-50 + Boston Acoustics Subwoofer

Mainly I like my M6 because, well, no one has one... And as soon as my friends pull out their nanos, I take out my M6 and they say: "WTF?", simply because they've never even heard of the brand, and iPods are just the "thing" of the "now", so, I don't like doing what everyone else is.

I don't care as much about Individuality than Functionality, but that's just me.
