    Getting Started with Meizu

    My mother-in-law just bought a meizu to replace her dead ipod nano. She doesn't know how to use the thing and asked me to help her out. I have a video ipod and know how to use it. So here is a stupid question - how do you get music on to the meizu? Is there some program like itunes that creates a music library? I feel so stupid asking this basic question.

    Hey there, welcome to MeizuMe!

    There is no program like iTunes for the Meizu players. You just handle it like a removable mass storage device, and drag and drop your music there. The player will automatically create/update the music library based on the ID3 tags of the songs.
    (For better organization, you should put the songs inside the "/MUSIC" folder and organize them e.g. by "artist/album")

    Unfortunately, there are a few limitations regarding ID3 tags, and you need to have them in mind for the songs to get recognized:
    1) You can use ID3v1 or ID3v2, but not both;
    2) Album art embedded in the ID3 tags is not supported (you can still add album art, but that is a bit trickier - use the forum search and you should be able to find some tutorials);
    3) Not all ID3v2 tags are supported, but I can confirm that at least the following will not give you problems: title, artist, album, genre, year, song name, track number, sample rate, bit rate (you can try more tags, but I'm not sure about those);

    Good luck

    PS: The MeizuMe user ForceDragonX is developing a nice piece of software to manage the Meizu players, called MeizuCenter. It's still in an early stage of development, but in the near future it might become just the program you're looking for.

    It's so much easier than the iPod. To create playlists you just create a .m3u file in any program that will make them (you can even do it in a text editor) and copy that into the playlists folder, or you can just organise them into folders and use the file browser. Programs like iTunes just make simple tasks complicated.

    Yes, you can use WMP or Winamp to sync it, like an ipod. To do that you have to go into the player's settings menu and set USB Mode to MTP.

    You forgot that the Meizu's playlist engine is SLOW. And that ain't no regular M3U either.

    To the topic starter: You can use the program in my sig to convert playlists for the Meizu, but as i said, its playlist engine is very slow. If your playlists are larger than 50 songs, forget it and just use folders.

    I don't find the slow playlists much of a problem. Long playlists take a while to load but it's all proportional, if you load a longer playlist you're probably going to be listening to it for longer, and if you switch the player off you can go back to where you were in the previous playlist without waiting again. I don't find it a problem, that's my personal opinion.

    But it takes that while to load every time you choose another song from the playlist...
