New 8GB miniplayer = new model?

For quite a while I've been seeing little snippets with mock-ups for the next Meizu Miniplayer, sometimes called the miniplayer 2 or the Meizu M8. I know that as a mock-up it does not necessarily mean that a new player would look like that.

However, I love my Meizu M6 4GB so I am extremely excited at the prospect of a new model in the miniplayer line from Meizu. I am just curious if this new 8gb model is going to be only upgrade or if there is a possibility of a miniplayer "2" coming out in the near future. If not, then I may have to get the 8gb M6, but if so... I might just have to wait for it.

So, any chance that Meizu has a new Miniplayer "2" model in the works?

The 8GB M6 is not the M8. So yes, M8 is still coming. There will be no "miniPlayer 2".

by Miniplayer "2" I just meant the next generation Miniplayer, as I wasn't sure what the model number would be. Thanks for the quick response, do you have any inkling of a possible release window?

Thank you very much and great job on the website!!!!!

First, the M3 "Music Card" will be released. This will be before March 2007. The M8 is still in design stages and it will be a music phone. No dates are set yet. Supposedly, Meizu are also coming out with a 6.9mm thin version of the M6 too, set to be released around the same time as the 8GB M6. The thin version will not feature 8GB storage.

Really? A music phone... I never would've guessed. Well, I guess I'll just have to buy one of the new 8GB M6s. I already have a phone I'm pretty happy with, and I prefer to keep my phone and mp3 player separate. (At least for now.) The thickness of the current M6 is great already ( not too thick, and not too thin... Nano anyone?) So I guess I'll just go for the capacity upgrade and a black one.

I'm very interested to see what Meizu comes up with for the music phone, to say the least.

    Go Meizu!

    M8 ?

    From engadget.com

We're not sure if the pics above are the result of an engorged, Chinese fanboy fantasy or actual product renderings of Meizu's rumored M8. We wouldn't be surprised either way what with China-based Meizu's history of uh, Apple inspired design. Posted by a senior discussion-forum jockey on the Meizu site, the M8 is now said to measure in at a scant 57x105x11.5-mm and packs both a GSM and Chinese TD-SCDMA 3G radio, a 3.3-inch 720x480 pixel display, Bluetooth, a 3 megapixel camera, and an ARM11 CPU capable of recording video at 30fps at the device's full 720 x 480 resolution. Too good to be true? Perhaps, but if not Meizu then certainly some other nimble Chinese outfit will be unveiling their iPhone clone soon enough and likely well before the iPhone hits Asia sometime in 2008. And as we've seen, even Apple's tenacious legal team can be hapless in the face of shutting down copycats on foreign turf.

Is that an official MEIZU picture or a fanboy picture?

That looks really beautiful, but personally I'll never buy a PMP running Windows. Microsoft has too much money and power already!

Actually I think Mr. Wong, Meizu CEO posted that on the Chinese BBS. It is official that M8 will be a phone, but the picture is only a design concept.

    whaaaaat??

    M8 a phone/ I just came from Engadget too...

While i appreciate Meizus will too compete with Apple its not a nano clone(m3) or an Iphone clone(m8) we want... we want something like the M6 but better with new design, more memory, bigger screen etc etc

ps: any price indication yet? it does look gooood

A reasonable answer would be sometime after release? An educated guess would be sometime during March.

As for the second question, we generally do not discuss where to buy products outside the classifieds section. If you look around I believe you can find an answer to your question.

Right now, we are taking pre-orders on our website www.jtcelectronics.biz . We are being told that the 8GB will be available in the US mid to late March. We already have several reserved, but for those that are interested in making sure they receive one as soon as they are available, we can take a deposit (fully refundable) that guarantees you one as well. Also see our Marketplace thread http://www.meizume.com/showthread.php?t=517 for additional details.
