16Gb iPhone and 32Gb iTouch

Seems the official news has spread and the apple store is updated.

Apple just released the 16Gb iPhone and a 32(!)Gb iPod Touch, both priced at USD 499. We're still talking about non-3G here, except the extra flash ram nothing else has changed.

How does this effect the position of the m8? It doesn't beat the iPhone with more flashram anymore, only difference is now the 100 dollar friendlier pricetab. Still, we can say nothing at all about the quality and stability of the m8 as it is not out yet until at least Q2.

Is this a blow against the m8?

hmmmm, interesting news. I do not think that it is catastrophic for Meizu, people will still buy the M8 in it's main market (China). As I have said many times before , Meizu customers will be buying the M8 for different reasons and functions the iphone does not have (unlocked, cheap price, codec support, USB OTG etc etc). However......this just highlights how late the M8 will be coming to market. It will, as I have also said before, have so much more competetition from big name manafacturers when it is released, it may infact not be the best option for many prospective western customers. If apple are releasing a 16gb iphone now imagine what the competition will be comeing out with in 7 monthes time around Q3 (rumoured release date of the M8). Could we be seeing 32gb 3G handsets? We will almost certainly be seing a 3G Iphone. Meizu are playing a dangerous game particularly if they are attempting to sell outside of China. If you were a regular western customer looking for a high end cell phone in august, would you choose an unknown, untested chinese brand or a a well known large manafacturer?......it is pretty simple.....meizu would not be an option for most. Technology is moving way to fast to wait for the type of delays we have seen with the M8. I wish Meizu all the best, but they have made a huge error in judgement with regards to how long it would take to develop and bring the M8 to market. I think by August It may be too late to try and make any type of significant moves outside of the Chinese market. The 32gb itouch also bangs another nail in the coffin of Meizu's chance of being a success outside of China. The 32gb itouch will also probably be the same price or cheaper than a 16gb M8 by the time it is released. And as for the Meizu's answer to the Itouch, the M7......well......might see it in 2050 if were lucky! hahaha

I think sere83 is basically right but I want to remind that we simply have no final M8 specs yet. If Apple pops in a 32 GB SSD so can MEIZU. I think what's holding them back atm is actually reprograming the Windows Mobile OS to actually fit what we saw as "UI screenshots" and also getting the drivers done that will connect all the different parts in the phone. When final specs are released and M8 hits the production chain we can start worrying about lacking features.

And I just got my iPod Touch some days ago. Ah well. I'm thinking of upgrading to the iphone actually. But I don't know. I got a new cellphone for xmas. So it's maybe better to keep the iTouch and not getting a iPhone.

Also, the touch is a awesome mediaplayer. I wouldn't call it overrated. Nor the iphone. The GUI is just very sleek, fast and easy to use. The webbrowsing and youtube are amazing.

The iPod touch/iPhone are overrated. The best thing about it is it's OS, but what's the problem with Symbian or Windows Mobile? I would rather not pay $499 for a 16GB iPhone that is locked and does not have a removable battery.

They've invented things like a super/turbo/whatever-SIM for things like that. Find the cheapest place to buy one, stick it on your simcard and pop it in your iphone to make it work with every provider. It doesnt even break your warrenty.

The removable battery story might be a problem, but i never ever had to replace the (removable) battery of my phone ever before. So don't know about that. I don't even know where you could buy a single SE W300i battery these days.

Mac OS X mobile is superior to Symbian and Win mobile. It's faster, has better GUI, easier to use yeah.

We have been able to unlock iphones for a long while now. Or use a "supersim"(I don't remember what's it called).

At 499 usd for a 16GB iphone, is a good price price.

It seems like the M8 will only be released in 2009.

Really, 2009? Did I miss something? Does Symbian or Windows Mobile take up 780MB of space?

How much space do the other ones take up? I only know that Windows Mobile apparently runs terribly slow on 64Mb of ram, so i figured there has to be some disk space behind that. I don't know however.
