Let's Design The New Meizu
So let's say that Meizu wanted to make a new Miniplayer (not Music card) and they wanted our input as to what WE wanted to see in the new Meizu. So what do you want?
I'll go first...
-8GB - 12GB Flash capacity (no 1GB, 2GB, or 4GB)
-2.5" or 3" 260K colors 640x480 LCD screen
-The same user interface as the M6, except that the volume control is universal to music mode and video mode
-Same or similar thickness
-No shiny metal backing, and not something iPodesque
-Integrated Bluetooth for Bluetooth audio
-Improved video conversion software, allowing full movies no matter what size
-No display in Picture Slide Show mode (ie no bar across the bottom getting in the way of the picture)
-Ability to customize a different picture for Music Mode, Video Mode, FM mode
-Ability to set a time for the Meizu to turn itself off (instead of it being set to 30 seconds or something like that)
-SLEEP mode - as well as keeping the "turn off" feature.
-Integrated FM transmitter
-Better games, and ability to add games
-More than 1 customized EQ optionI'm out

Lets see...
- 2-8gb capacities
- SD card slot
- Album Art
- A funky and innovative design
- Brushed magnesium casing
- Wi-fi support
- BBE MP sound processes
- 20-band Equaliser (for the audiophiles
)
- A cleaner output (perhaps a higher SnR ratio??)
- Everything good about the m6 now
- Line Out (For better amplification with speakers)
- More transitions for photo slideshows
- Better video playback
- Greater flexibility for skinners and modders
- Open source firmware
- Menu transitions
- Audio CrossfadeCurrent Rigs:
8GB iAudio 7 > Not in use
4GB + 32GB iAudio D2 > Alessandro MS-Pro
Sony MZ-NH1 > Headroom Total Bithead > Grado Labs PS-1
2GB Meizu M6 T1 > Not in use
8GB iPod Touch 2G > Shure SE530

Me next...
- 8gb or above capacity
- SD/Mini SD/Micro SD card capable
- same thickness/thinness
- play all FPS rate movies (25 EU 29.75 US etc) without conversion being necessary.
- Larger screen for Video 3-4inch? I dont mind between 320x240 and 640x480 resolution on that size screen
- Play avi(DivX and XviD)/mpg/vob?
- better video processor/software as current one is none too good.
- Album Art
- wi-fi and bluetooth
- under £200/US$400/EU€300
- See Cowon A2 for features as a competitor but make it thinner

Well the new one must be...
Being able to play all fps videos up to 30 should do the trick and end the synchronizing agony we are taking. But the other ones I see cosmetic are:
-SDcard slot (bigger and bad for battery life?)
-Play all video codecs (again drain batteries...)
Changes I'd very much like:
-More and more GBs of fun(why not 4x16 GBs making 64 GB?) I'd be willing to pay $$$ more to just say I have doubled or quadrupled the closest Ipod nano)
-Wi-fi and / or bluetooth (with the ability to connect bluetooth headphones)
-Bigger album art, animated menus, customisable interface...

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsyou guys have to be more realistic...
wifi on such a small device? how are you even going to input text?
a screensaver on a device already so short on battery life? it's a portable device! wasting battery life doesn't make sense. ditto with an FM transmitter, unless you don't mind a large increase in size/weight?
as for more memory, ya, we all want more memory, but 64 gigs is still a ways away. at todays prices, you are talking something along the lines of $1000 just for memory. is that an amount you want to pay? at that price, you could get a laptop with a lot more functionality AND space. in a few more years i'm sure we'll see the 64 gigs of flash, but not in the near future.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI still haven't bought a Meizu device -but I'm going to soon! So my only suggestion is this:
GREY! No white or black, but GREY! That's a good way to stand out from iPods.

"but 64 gigs is still a ways away. at todays prices, you are talking something along the lines of $1000"
Im just estimating but it isnt that much , 4gb is around £7 ($14) ( Im estimating) so 16gb = £28 ... x 4 = £112 8 gb cant be much more money it definatly wouldnt be $1000 memory isnt as exspensive as you guys think , sure its the most exspensive part , but the other parts are cheap as chips when bought in large quantities. My dad bought a 2gb memory stick for £8 the other day ( £2.50 postage , that is £5.50 , then the casing cost about £1 thats £4.50 then the profit is prob about £1.50 that means the chip was £3 for a 2gb one , so you can easily stack up for cheap pricesClick the little (+/-) button next to someone to reward or punish someone

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsi think you need to reassess your estimates. here it is straight from the horse's mouth:
keep in mind that at this point in time, $7/GB has yet to be realized (but probably will be sometime this year).iSuppli analyst, Mark DeVoss, said that in 2005, it cost about $US0.05 for 1MB of NAND flash memory, which was primarily used in consumer devices. This year, Voss said, iSuppli expected the price of flash memory to fall to $US0.007 per megabyte
so, i will admit that i was a bit high on my initial estimate, but at $7/GB, 64 megs is still $448. $500 is probably a more realistic number. would you pay $500 plus all the other materials, assembly, design, and distribution costs? that would put it at around $550~600 as a conservative estimate. people are balking at the iphone with much more functionality (excepting the memory of course) at that price. what makes you think people would rather have an m6 with a lot of memory over an iphone?

I like everything the way it is for the M6sl just a couple seggestions.
1.Album Flow like the iPOD and Album Art BIGGER
2.Better Videos so that the pictue and voice match up
3.Easier way to download new firmware(so people dont complain so much and say how they messed up thier player and dont know how to fix it)
I think thats about it for me
o yea maybe AM tuner(would be kinda nice)

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsArgh. guys. All that would be needed would be open source firmware and added USB host ability. With that there could be hardware addons made - camera, Bluetooth, keyboard, video in/out module maybe even external video decoding module that would handle codecs. you name it
