Goodbye MiniOne/M8
Looks like Apple, in its infinite wisdom of marketing, has dropped the price of the iPhone from $600 to $400. Don't get me wrong, I still hate Apple products. I'd only buy an iPhone to join the class action law suit against them for the poor battery life and high cost of replacement ($80), but they do know how to make a stir.

Does this mean that the MiniOne/M8 will lower in price? Hard to say. My thoughts are that this will pretty well kill the M8, which is not even released yet. Why? Because Meizu will release it too late for a price that is higher than the iPhone with an even worse service/warranty than Apple has (which is quite the feat).
So what do you think?
P.S. Error - don't delete this thread too. You know it's an important topic.I'm out

I agree. Now when the iPhone is so cheap, is the M8 really worth it? Hopefully the M8 will be better and it will go down in price.

If the M8 is in production, it's not likely that they will go down in price without Meizu losing a ton of cash.

i suspect by the time the first m8 drops theres a possibility there may well be a 16gb 3g iphone out by then. Obviously their will already be an 8gb 3g version by then which already trumps the first non 3g m8. I still dont think the m8's expensive though if we consider you won't have to buy it with a contract (although their is obviously ebay for some non contract iphone action). We must also remember that the m8 is mainly built for the Chinese market, do u really think when they have over a billion people to market too they really care about a price drop in the iphone? The chinese market is very far removed from the european or US markets and the laws are very different. Whatever happens the m8 will still be cheaper and i will never worship with the cult of apple. When I see a crisp uncompressed xvid playing on my 720x480 m8 screen i will know that I have made the right choice. I have to admit though these crazy iphone price drops have tempted me, but i'm a patient man, i just wish meizu would hurry up!!!

I don't think that these announcements from Apple affect the MiniOne. Far from it. Remember that Nokia is also coming with a similar unit. I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung, LG and others follow suit.
On the contrary: NOW it gets interesting.
I've played with an iPhone, mostly at my closest Apple store. It's an impressive device, no doubt. But the lock in to iTunes/AT&T is terrifying. No expandability (No memory slots), DRM, etc. I welcome more players into the fray.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsYou DO NOT have to buy the iPhone with a contract - buy it from the Apple Store. It can be unlocked easily with SOFTWARE now. It can play your MP3s, don't say it won't. I am not among the cult that keeps saying "APPLE IS EVIL BECAUSE THEY ARE POPULAR, I WILL NEVER JOIN THEM", but I do appreciate the fact that Apple tends to be locked down in functionality.
Speaking from that angle, I still am considering the Meizu M8 because of the applications that its Windows Mobile 6 can run - a feat the iPhone will never accomplish. I can install a PPC GPS system that is independent of Mapquest and the entire internet, for example. And the Meizu's screen is better, and it supports more file formats.
But guys, don't blindly cut out Apple as the devil, they are just a company like any other in the U.S. Come on now, be reasonable. If Meizu M8 doesn't cut it, I'll look to the iPhone or its competitors. Whatever gives me the best functionality for the price. I really hope the M8 will make it through, because that will mean I have a phone, mp3 player, video player, PDA, and GPS all in one. iPhone can only do 3 of those functions. Oh, and iPhone won't let me play any of my subscription WMA music.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsWow, I feel sorry for all those people that stood in line for 10 hours to get their $600 iPhone, locked in a contract at the time, received 300 page phone bills, and $4000 bills... now wait a sec, no I don't, I'm laughing.
Whoops... I don't think Apple will be getting any good comments for awhile after this. I think they've just made a lot of enemies out of their loyal customers who were loyal enough to stand in line for 10 hours to get their latest thing.I swim through a sea of stars, without looking back to shore...

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsDon't worry DChronos, they're issuing a $100 store credit for old iPhone customers!... Yeah, not much, but Steve Jobs explained that tech drops in price over time, and it's true. It's not like a company is deliberately screwing you over every time they have a price drop, it's just business. Apple found they don't get very many takers since their iPhone is so overpriced, so they had to drop it.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts8gb iphone $350 refurbished on apple.com I dont think meizu can beat it........... infection0 "Apple found they don't get very many takers since their iPhone is so overpriced, so they had to drop it." I disagree that sold a lot. much more than I expected. The iphone doesn't really matter to the m8 because the iphone doesn't work in Asia, meizu's main market(right?)

I highly doubt this. The Meizu M8 will use much more expensive hardware. Remember, hardware-wise, the iPhone is really nothing special. Due to the fact that Meizu's quantity comes nowhere near Apple's, the production costs will be even higher.
However, I do think that Meizu will take appropriate steps after the new Apple event. This may include lowering the price.Trying to make a dent in the universe.

It's you're (not to quibble or anything)
In my defense, even though I really have no need to defend myself, I will say this: I liked Meizu a lot. I was SO excited when I got my M6. I was never a fanboy, but I was definitely a fan. Then I experienced its quality first hand. I bought my friend an M6 and he's been having similar problems. Others on the forum have had problems like this. Sure, Apple has problems too, so I've stopped using/buying their product and warning others from having to go through the mess I did when I used their products. The same thing is true now of the Meizu. If it was indeed a HIGH quality product, I would still gladly endorse it. My experience has been to the contrary.
All I really want is a pretty cool-ish PMP that will play a few videos, mp3s and pictures - one that will last more than 6 months (preferably a number of years). I thought I found this in the Meizu, but I was wrong and my search continues. I will still speculate about Meizu products and, depending of reviews, may purchase newer products as the company establishes itself (and hopefully increases the build quality).
In closing I say this... Why can't anyone build an MP3 player with the build quality of a Thinkpad laptop? I'd be willing to pay more, as long as I don't have to buy another every 6mo-1year.
P.S. My joke on the iPhone was in reference to how many battery complaints/class actions they've been getting.

Meizu M8 is still dead, in my opinion. Too bad - I was kinda looking forward to it.I'm out

The MiniOne isn't dead. I'm sure that they will make it cheaper.
And lol, Meizu's ARE high quality products. I have enjoy'd my Meizu for months now. And I don't have any problems. So when I need another player, I think that it will be a Meizu.

My first 6 months have been accomplished next week. I use my M6 every day and have experienced no major problems so far though it's under heavy duty. I don't know what kind of problem you had with yours, but it would be definitely wrong to judge a whole device series by lokking at only a handfull of devices. Maybe this is a good day to start a poll which counts the people really having major problems.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsMine died with still no reason as to why, though I'm still with Meizu because the M6 is their first foray into the world of flash mp3 players that play videos and pictures and text. They had no other before the M6. They are updating the design with the M6SL, and hopefully, fixing their first mistakes, although I hate that they are jumping into the whole "lookit me I'm smaller!!11!" bandwagon bullshit that's going around and taking out their great battery life that is a key point in buying an mp3 player. They should leave the thickness, add a card slot under the board and keep the larger battery. Companies need to stop acting like they have to be the thinnest and smallest of all when in reality, if it fits well in your pocket and doesn't feel like it's pulling your pants down from the weight, it's fine. They should start acting like the space they save on the current stuff allows them to add more into the saved space, like a bigger battery. Stop playing the childish "I'm samller, lol" game like how here in the US, each state is now playing the "I'm first, lol" game with the presidential primaries and accomplishing nothing at all with it exept to say they were first.

One or two bad products (whose problems stem from a design flaw) is good enough for me to never try that company's product again. My Meizu died at 6 months altogether. You might be in for a few surprises in the next few weeks (but I hope not).
