Hmm. Isn't limewire laden with spyware? I have steered clear away from it in a while.

This is what I do. A couple of years ago I decided that 95% of modern music is utter crap. Remember, this is my humble opinion an YMMV. I keep listening to old school stuff, and the new music that I buy comes in drips. If I hear a single I like (say, Amy Winehouse which I discovered by accident and truly love) I download the tracks via BitTorrent. If I do like it, I go ahead and purchase the song/CD legally either going to a brick and mortar store, or online (mostly iTunes).

This way I support *only* those artists that I truly enjoy. Also, if they have a show in any of the areas I visit I make an effort of going and seeing them live. They earn more money doing live shows than selling CD's after all.

I don't support piracy, and I don't support RIAA practices neither. I do believe that if you like an artist, like a good bottle of wine, yes you should sip and try but buy the bottle too.

I think the best is to buy a CD. Yes. A real CD. You can touch it, you can lick it and most of all you can listen to it in best quality! Convert it to whatever you want and laugh at people having problems with their itunes music.
A 'real' CD collection also looks best when 'real' people come and visit you.

I get mine randomly from all over, and soon to get a new 'real' cd I have preorded... though most of the stuff I listen to is VG soundtracks and background music ripped from the games... a lot of it old school stuff. I'm a VG junkie, though I also love some of the older stuff as well, and barely enjoy much new stuff since it all sounds almost the same.

If you're looking for VG music, you can search around and find plenty of places to get it, though the best place is and will be from ftp on the gamingforce forums. Otherwise, you can find some torrents for it, too. Most of it is stuff you can't find anymore, or is ripped from the game itself.

You can also find VG remixes from OC Remix. Some are pretty good, some need work. They have torrents set up for this free stuff, to get about 1000 songs at a time, or some collaborative collection remix soundtracks people put together.

As for mainstream stuff... well, I... I tend to just go to this rapsody site, find what I want and use the free plugin to listen to the stream, and just use my PC along with Audacity to record it to 44000khz wave and then save as whatever I want. If I really like something, I'll get a CD, like this remastered soundtrack from Megaman Zero Advent I'm getting.

Not anymore. They used to monitor your searches like Google, but now they got rid of it. CNET does some extensive spyware checking and found limewire to be trusted.

it is NOT legal to use limewire for downloading copyrighted stuff (which is 99% of whats on it) but I do recomend it, I can give someone free links to limewire pro(cracked) if you need it

I also recomend torrents for full albums. also you can use websites like filez.com to find stuff on rapidshare and other websites

That all depends on where in the worlds you're living. For example, it's completely legal to download music here in Holland and it clearly says so in law.

I could also recommend usenet for full albums. Another tip is to rent CD's from your local library, and rip them. (Next to just buying the CD if you like it very much offcourse.)

Downloading music is legal in Canada as well. I use Limewire Pro for single tracks and I download my full albums through torrents or albumbase.com.

Well it is true that downloading music via Torrents sometimes is a pain, but it depends on the seeder/leecher ratio. I always start downloading and if there are no peers after an hour or so I just move to another torrent.

I've downloaded 650MB's worth of music in an hour, two at most.
