Meaning of Meizu name
Hi Meizu friends! I want to tell you something about the meaning of Meizu.
Meizu, is two Chinese words, 魅 and 族. (Mei and Zu)
魅 (Mei) means something like 'modern' and 族 (Zu) means something like 'group or race'. Together, it means something like 'the modern race', that the ones who have Meizu mp3 are part of a modern, more stylish group of people.
It´s a nice name, don´t you think?

Cool...I did not know that

I did wonder about it though
I think its a name thats also pretty easely accepted... while not as easy to remember as Apple, Meizu is a word that can also be easely pronounced in English for example.
Ofcourse the english speaking ppl wouldn be themselves if they didnt completely mess up the pronunciation :P

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts魅 ... translated into "modern" ... well i guess u could say it in that way
it means more of a "power" or "strength" of one person's personality.
but i think it sounds better with "modern"

I Googled and found this:
"MeiZu is the name of her tribe (one of the twelve aboriginal tribes of Taiwan that were here before the Chinese)."

I am 99% sure the actual characters mean something else than a tribe-name, romanized Chinese can have lot of different meanings. As Chinese is a tonal language with 4 tones, at least 4 times the data is lost when romanized.
So no, Meizu (in this context) is most likely not the name of an aboriginal Taiwan tribe. Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsAre any of you guys chinese by any chance?
Because I am chinese (Taiwanese actually) and I know for a fact that the MeiZu is not referring to the tribe. I know there is a tribe by that name, but it is a different writing in chinese (same pronunciation).
Mei means to attract or the power of attraction (ie attractive personality)
Zu means a tribe or group of people. (most people got that right).
In conclusion, no matter what MeiZu means, it still beats iPod

ok... lets settle for iversonjacks explanation
... as he speaks Chinese it should be correct... besides "group of people with attractive personality" roughly translates to "cool people" which actually isn't such a bad name.
besides that the Meizu name is easy to remember and possible to pronounce(whether correct or not isn't really relevant) in pretty much any language
So not a bad name at all in my opinionLast edited by Job; 02-03-2007 at 11:16 PM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI think, unless you actually ask the guy who named the enterprise, that no one will really know the english translation accurately.
Because there a about 16 different ways to pronounce "MEIZU" and most of them actually do make sense. The GUN pointed at the HEAD of the UNIVERSE
