    Miniplayer wannabes

This thread is just to keep you guys aware of all those fakes, ripoffs and blatant copies of Meizu Miniplayer.

Please if you find them, post them here, with an actual picture of them. Most of those are called to be Miniplayer killers :D.

Ok, first of them: Newman N03, featuring a smaller screen a 5 way-control (buttons copying Miniplayer's touchstrip)

There's a guy spamming eBay with these ripoffs saying it is better than Meizu Miniplayer just because is cheaper , no FLAC nor OGG support...well, I won't keep discussing its drawbacks anymore.

Looking at picture carefully... there's an M in there... what a FAKE one!

    Second one: the Zino 810.

    looks familiar isn't?

Same as the Newman above, smaller screen. With smaller capacity too, from 512Mb to 2Gb it was intended to be competition for the M6. yeah right!

Well, at least this one doesnt got and M too

    Strike three, you're out!

Introducing the AOCOS S-201 which i think is the same Newman just rebranded.

another picture posted by err0r before:

Just to show you it is really an AOCOS and not a Newman (LOL)

    Not much left to say...

The funny thing is, I contacted the eBay seller of the Newman why it is better and this is what he said:
"Well its simple, for the same exact quality, you get it at a cheaper price. The reason why you pay more for a meizu is because of the brand name. Newman is a new company on the rise, already very popular in China, it is a seeking to expand all around the world."

I don't know, but AFAIK Meizu uses more expensive brand-name hardware, hence making it higher quality than the Newman. Also, buy a Newman and theres no value added service like MeizuMe

Or how about he creates a NewmanMe.com?
Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

    Save the domain, Error!

Actually this is exactly what I would say if I was selling these wannabe meizu's. Who wouldn't?

I red that comment, it is in fact the reason why i opened this thread... What a poor answer from the seller!

The newman doesnt look nearly as well polished as the meizu does

I am curious how the sound and screen quality are in these players...

haha...looks like they took a lot of time to take that photo...:P ...not so appealing picture.
wonder why they also put the "m" on top of the buttons...people won't mistake that for a meizu.

hmmm well... not every player with a horizontal screen and controls on the right is a meizu ripoff or wannabe

just like the M6 is not an ipod wannbe just for having a screen and a touch strip and comming in white...

some(most) of the above are blatant ripoffs though

I think most of the above are really big, fat and ugly but however, I do like the look of the first one that was in boostr29 posted

    Not really ripoff...

My guess is that most of these are actually OEM products made in agreement with Meizu.

OEM is a confusing term. It stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer but it really means the opposite. Some company buys the base product, makes some small changes, and then resells it with their own brand name on it. This is a fairly common practice. Sometimes the small change is only to put their own brand name on it.

Some of these may be "ripoffs", but I bet alot of them are OEM products.
