Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsActually, OEM really is OEM. Go to Newegg.com for the best example of what OEM really is. Basically, it REALLY means they (the seller) buy a whole bunch of product in bulk straight from the manufacturer with no retail packaging, then they can sell it for a better profit for those that don't care if it's in the retail box or not. It cuts out the middle man in the chain, and also means you get a better deal, too... usually. Sometimes, it also means there's a higher chance for defects.
Usually, OEM means you get nothing but a certain specific part, but sometimes, they sell all the parts together that would come in the retail box, just without the fancy packaging.
Also, I think this is actually a PMP (personal media player). Those are made for watching movies and other video, and have music capability, unlike the M6 which is made for music with video capability. Different class of handheld, though the design is fairly close to the M6.

As for the other ripoffs, I bet these are really good cases of corporate espionage, companies stealing design concepts from other companies by paying employees for information, and "designing" their own copy.Last edited by DChronos; 01-11-2007 at 12:40 AM.

in that case the players posted here ARE rip-offs as they are NOT the the same as the Meizu at all but with changed looks, controls and capabilities...etc
an OEM Meizu would be the exact same player without the Meizu brand, working with the same firmware.
a mere copy of the player is easy to make but shouldnt be associated with Meizu whatsoever.
ps: this has nothing to do with corporate espionage in my opinion
In China anyone can rip off anyones design. They dont care much about intellectual property. No espionage needed at all.
The chinese even make a Smart car rip off with the exact same looks!
They dont spy, they just copy

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThat new version actually looks pretty cool. I would personally like having the play button there, and the menu button separate from the controls.
I have a design in mind for my perfect mp3 player, and the M6 design would be the base of it, too, since before I even knew about the M6, I wanted to find a player that actually used as much of the front for a screen to give more functionality and stuff. I was also looking for intelligent button design, and good feature set. I'll draw it up sometime. I don't like touchpads that much, but I have another idea that's already been used on mp3 CD players that would make it easy. I also have a touchpad desing, but without buttons on the touchpad.I swim through a sea of stars, without looking back to shore...

Personally i dont think Teclast is making M6 ripoffs, i have the T29 and ordered the C260 from HouseOfDap.com (both of them :D) and i can tell you they're totally different to miniplayer, even the way you search for files, the options, controls....
In fact, i recommend you guys the T29 for backup player...Internet has an answer for every question out there, not likely to be always the answer you're looking for.

I agree
The T29 is not a ripoff. It just happens to have teh screen in the same place.
I own both and the T29 is a fine player but not as easy to use and navigate as the Meizu.
It is very small, stylish, cheap and with a good build-quality though.
However, the difficult navigation makes the player a back-up player indeed. Not a first choice

wasn't Newman that guy from Seinfeld?
anyway id like to play with the Newman and all the other rip offs for a while just to see how crappy they are probably but also what surprising little things they might have that actually are worth of being used in the real thing too...

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postslol I love the false advertising on ebay, atleast if its cheap, it might be fun to play with.
Hey Jobs do you buy many of these players just to poke around?
I recently(today) bought an Ipod Video 30GB and I'm really falling in love with Itunes for organizing my Playlist.
This was to replace the 1GB Nano clone I had which replace a cheap Sandisk 256MB player.
And Guess what I have coming to me in the mail.. A Meizu M6 4GB (white) lol
I had a sudden attack of the impulse buy and thought heck why not I will just give it away to my Sis.
The funny thing is I just got an email from my sis informing me she doesn't need a MP3 player so I get to keep the Meizu without feeling too guilty :D
Ah ha ha ha ha hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

No I dont buy them. They are hard to get and not worth the money and often ship from countries of which the postal service is bad or very expensive.
I also had an Ipod Video but I got rid of it because of its big and heavy body, poor battery life(video never made it past 2 or 2,5 hours), the proprietary cables and stuff, the fact that you cant take your files from the Ipod to copy to another computer, converting video to the Ipod is a hassle and takes ages, the sound is ok but not great due to the pre-set only EQ and most of all Itunes... i hate Itunes....
I don't like mp3 players that force you to use software to put your files on it.
While I must say Itunes is handy for tagging of mp3 files that's pretty much where its use ends
Its a sub-par audio player compared to Winamp as it doesn't take WMA, OGG etc files, its extremely slow and keeps doings stuff you dont ask for.
It is a plain bad Video player. It continuously rubs the Itunes store under your nose. Itunes store has a descent selection of music but there is no way Ill ever download from there because 1) I cant use the songs/files on any player but my Ipod 2) The download quality is a mere 128Kbs 3) its has DRM 4) They charge 1 Euro a song(thats US$1.20).
If I pay 1 euro a song I want to own the music and copy it freely where and whenever I want and I expect more than 128Kbs and certainly no AAC format
The things above plus the fact that i found the Ipod Video to be way too big and bulky to use in the gym made me buy a Meizu. While the meizu has the drawback of just having 4GB(8 soon) memory. It has the same size screen as the Ipod with better video quality, 2x the battery life, has a customizable EQ and more powerful sound options making it surely sound better, uses standard cables and best of all... no Itunes!
Besides that it obviously comes with the usual flash-benefits like light weight, shock resistant, small etc
So maybe you want to check out that Meizu that's in the mail to you... it might be better then you think

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsLol I have dissed Itunes from day one, I have always treated it like spyware until yesterday when I was forced to install it for the Ipod.
I'm now quite impress with it for organizing my playlist.
My original intention was to get a Creative Zen Vision M 30GB but I was intercepted by an incredible deal on the Ipod.
I'll be using it as audio player so the video battery life problem that plauges it won't bother me too much.
Haha can't wait to check out the Meizu, still trying to figure out what I should do with it, as for working out I plan to use the Nano clone which I don't mind rubbing all my salty sweat over lol.

the review says it has a dim screen though...as the Meizu doesnt have a dim screen (atleast not in my opinion) this might be another knock off..
anyone familiar with this company or player?
btw where did you see the price? how much is it?Last edited by Job; 03-06-2007 at 01:12 AM.
