    I'm Going To China!

    Hello to all the members of Meizu Me (especially those residing in China)

    I will be doing some courses at the Foreign Affairs University in Beijing in May, and realized that I could probably buy some electronics for cheaper too while I'm there. I wondered if anyone could give me the names of good shops, suggestions for places to go, etc. in and around Beijing.

    I think I'll buy an 8GB M6 while I'm there (can't wait)
    I'm out

    Hey, iamdmc, I am living in Shanghai city, however, it shouldn't be hard to find a great place to buy electroinc stuff. There are several big electronic markets in beijing, ask anyone in beijing ,they will tell you.
    For miniplayer, i found an official dealers(beijing) list, unfortunatly, it is in chinese, but I don't think it will be a problem since you will be in china soon. Here is the link ( http://www.meizu.com/dealer2.asp?actarer=北京 ) , copy the whole address including last 2 chinese characters(which means beijing) in your IE. Don't worry, from the list , I can see, you can always find one dealer in whichever big electronic market you will go...
    BTY, the 8G mini now in china is about 999 RMB(about US$125).
    Have a nice trip.

    Welcome to China!
    I'm a European living in Chengdu and I suggest you the following (IMO):
    1) Beijing is usually better than Shanghai to go shopping, but for electronics, fakes, etc. THE place is Guangdong: Canton/Guangzhou and Shenzhen;
    2) Don't stop at the first shop to buy (not even at the 2nd, 3rd, etc.) and you will realize that prices may vary a lot: it means you can (you MUST) bargain heavily. I don't know on the coast, but here in Sichuan you can bargain even on the tag prices at general stores (section clerks have a commission they can use to discount goods and do the sale)!
    3) Go to the so called "electronic cities/malls" or "electronic streets";
    4) Learn immediately to say in Chinese "Impossible, it's too expensive! Discount it a little!";
    5) Sorry to disappoint everybody, but usually (even bargaining) China is good to shop for Chinese brands (like Meizu), but not for foreign ones (even if produced in China): the best places in Asia to shop are HK and Singapore. IMO the dream place to buy electronics is always USA (except cellphones maybe);
    6) So take a 200$ internal flight and go to Guangdong shopping (english.ctrip.com), or better hop on the magnificent Dragon Air and enjoy their holiday packages in HK: you may easily pay back the flight ticket with the savings... and if not you would have spent anyway a weekend in one of the most wonderful cities in the world; :eek:
    7) In China there is a Chinese Newegg, but no site in English (same thing for Amazon)!
    8) (Way off topic) Chengdu is amongh the cities in China with the best life!
    9) (Off topic) Have fun at the silk market!!! :D

    Does anybody know a good and serious Chinese site in English to shop for electronics?

    I believe the big electronics malls in Beijing are somewhere in the neighbourhead of the BeiDa University (Beijing DaXue). There are at least two huge buildings filled with small semi-independent shops. Prices are low (lower than were I am) and as there are so many shops selling the same stuff, you are in an excellent bargaining position. Just walk away if you don't like their quote. Often they'll call for you with a new rock-bottom price they just realized they could offer you!

    Bargaining is fun. Don't be happy with a 5% discount.

    Also, if you go to the Silk Market to buy clothing and other stuff, you'll have to bargain very very hard. In general, if I want to buy anything there (something like a pair of pants or a pullover or something) they'll quote me a price of about 500 RMB. The upper limit of what I'm willing to pay (and what I always agree with them upon) is about 70 or 80 RMB for a nice pair of pants, be it jeans or any other kind of pants with an Armani or Boss or whatever logo. The quality is excellent. The bargaining can be long and difficult, but again, remember: if you're not happy with their quote, just walk away. They'll come running for you and give you a much better price.

    Where should I purchase my Meizu in Shanghai?

    I can't handle chinese characters, and couldn't find a list of authorized dealers in pinyin. I definitely want to buy it from a licensed source because of the warranty issues. I usually buy my electronics from Cybermart on Huaihai or from similar markets in Xujiahui. Those places don't use fixed pricing so I guess there are some other outlets for these?
