Meizu MX back cover photos leaked, sadly confirming shiny plastic material
Dec 05, 2011 - 4:13 PM - by nice2know_u
As we inch closer to the release of the highly anticipated Meizu MX more and more details see the light each day. This time photos of said device were posted on a Weibo account, possibly by a factory employee. The back cover seems to be made from exactly the same material as we have seen on the previously leaked photos (of which Meizu already stated are not real, or at least not final). Well, it seems there's no denying that these are indeed of a final product and we couldn't be more sad about it. As far as we can tell this shiny plastic material was used for the back cover of the Meizu M8 too which was a real nasty fingerprint magnet. Please prove us wrong Meizu!
On the other hand on the hop of the device there's a small pinhole that could be a noise cancelling microphone but the last photo caused lots of head scratching. What could it be of?
The photos can be found in our previous gallery (scroll down)!

Meizu MX prototype photos leaked
Nov 13, 2011 - 7:57 PM - by nice2know_u
The world's worst photographer strikes again - this time with photos of the much anticipated flagship device of Meizu, namely the MX. It was a few days ago these photos were posted on the company's official forums and topics containing them got quickly removed by the moderators. What does all this mean? You tell us!
In a recent comment JW confirmed the MX is still on track for a December release despite its last minute camera swap, so we should see some official announcement in the coming month or so.
Check out the pictures in full resolution here!
Thanks for posting AlexNesterov!
UPDATE: Two more photos has been leaked of the device, this time we can see the front in more detail which seems to have a very small home button made of metal and two touch buttons that can rotate along with the screen. The latter detail lines up perfectly with a previously published design patent by Meizu describing the behaviour of the touch buttons in detail.

Meizu MX to be released on Chinese National Day on October 1
Sep 19, 2011 - 2:29 PM - by Err0r
Today, Meizu has announced the official release date for the Meizu MX along with official and final specifications.
As we previously reported, the Meizu MX will come in two versions, a 16GB version with an A9 dual-core processor, and also a high-end 32GB version with a quad-core processor. Meizu MX also comes with a 4-inch, 960 x 640 display which reaches a density of 292 PPI. According to Meizu, the screen on the MX will have an aspect ratio of 3:2, and they're claiming that the width is comparable to phones with 4.3-inch screens that are out today. Dimensions are said to be 63 x 121 x 10 mm, and we will allegedly see two Chinese characters, 梦想, on the back. The characters are read as meng xiang, which means dream in Chinese. Abbreviated, they also form the name of this upcoming Meizu smartphone.
The Meizu MX is said to be released on the Chinese National Day, which falls on October 1st. Pricing remains unchanged from when we last reported, 2999 RMB for the 16GB version and 3999 RMB for the 32GB version, which roughly translates to $470 and 620 USD, respectively.

Price cuts coming to Meizu M9
Sep 17, 2011 - 10:19 PM - by Err0r
The Chinese smartphone market is getting very competitive, with local companies quickly adopting Android, and multinational companies such as Samsung, LG and Motorola releasing better and cheaper smartphones. This puts Meizu in a terrible position, with their aging flagship Meizu M9 device quickly losing market appeal.
Previously, Meizu CEO Jack Wong promised that the company wouldn't lower the Meizu M9 pricing, and said that if that were to be the case, Meizu would reimburse all users who have purchased at the old price.
This time however, Jack Wong has stated that the Meizu M9 will indeed see a price cut, and that the company can't afford to refund the difference to all previous customers. For promising this earlier, Jack wrote on the company BBS that he felt great shame.
The details surrounding the price cut have yet to be announced, and the original BBS thread has since been deleted.
Update (2011-09-19): The new price is 2009 RMB (without memory card), which is approximately $314 USD.
Update (2011-09-20): The price of the refurbished M9 has also been lowered to as low as 1600 RMB! That's about $250 USD.

Meizu might have a tablet in the works
Sep 01, 2011 - 7:39 AM - by nice2know_u
A recent patent application was just made public by the chinese SIPO (State Intellectual Property Office) and it reveals a case along with what seems to be a tablet device. The pictures don't reveal much of the upcoming device only that it has a full QWERTY keyboard and we're guessing it's running Android. It's a bit strange Jack Wong has not leaked any information about it yet, but the fact they applied for a patent must mean they have some surprise in the works for us. Check out this gallery for more pictures!
What do you think? Could Meizu enter the tablet game? We would love to hear your opinion, so let us know in the comments!
