Little update, it seems the Album name (same as written in ID3 tag) is sufficient as a file name. So for Pendulum - Hold Your Colour, the filename Hold Your Colour.jpg works for the whole album.

Jpg's placed in a Albums folder in the root of the player. I use the latest firmware (2.001.1) and have the TP version. Does it work for you now?

Using latest firmware 2.001.1,
  • My method (Album subfolder) does not work any more
  • Using the Album Name id3 tag as a picture name works
So no need for strange tricks any more.

That said, some albums have names containing special characters (apostrophes, question marks, slashes, etc.) that cannot be used in a file name, so for these there is no solution yet.

PS: I am using a TP version, but it doesn't seem to matter actually (at least not any more)

Yes I confirm.
The picture can be in the same folder, or in \albums.
A picture name as a song name in the same folder also still works.
'Album pictures' will overrule 'song pictures'.

I have read this entire topic from start to finish and I still can't get it to work on my SP version.

I'm running firmware S 2.001.1.

I have put album art in the same folder as the songs with the same name as the album, e.g.:

root:\MUSIC\Billy Talent\Billy Talent\01 This Is How It Goes.mp3
root:\MUSIC\Billy Talent\Billy Talent\02 Living In The Shadows.mp3
root:\MUSIC\Billy Talent\Billy Talent\03 ... etc
root:\MUSIC\Billy Talent\Billy Talent\Billy Talent.jpg

root:\MUSIC\Billy Talent\II\01 Devil In A Midnight Mass.mp3
root:\MUSIC\Billy Talent\II\02 Red Flag.mp3
root:\MUSIC\Billy Talent\II\03 ...etc
root:\MUSIC\Billy Talent\II\II.jpg

What am I doing wrong?

P.S. Tried the 'root:\ALBUMS\II.jpg' method too and that didn't work either!

check up with the album name in ID3 tag of the mp3
and it should be "root:\Albums" only CAPS for 'A'

Have checked the ID3 tags and the files are named correctly. Have also tried renaming ALBUMS to Albums and that doesn't work either.

I followed the steps but it isn't working.... the root folder titiled albums should it be exactly like this "Albums" or "albums"

Using this method, an image can be used throughout an entire album, instead of a particular song!

How to:
1. Get the Album picture to a relatively small size (I used 200x200, JPEG). It is best to use 80x80.
2. Create a new folder inside the player's root directory called "Albums" (No CAPS).
3. Rename the Album picture into "#ALBUM##ARTIST#.jpg" where "#ALBUM#" is the name of the album written in the ID-tags and #ARTIST# is the artist. Note that there is no space between the two phrases.
4. Copy the picture into your newly created "Albums" directory.
5. Disconnect the player and "Update Music Library".
6. Voila, experience a whole new level of enjoyment with Album Art!

Example:
Let's say I have an album from the Red Hot Chilipeppers called Stadium Arcadium. The file I need to place inside my "Albums" folder would be called "Stadium ArcadiumRed Hot Chilipeppers.jpg".

Note: You can make the files/folder hidden if wanted to make the player less cluttered.

Edit: Apart from having correct ID-tags, you must also have your songs sorted by Artist/Album, such as: "MUSIC\Red Hot Chilipeppers\Stadium Arcadium"

No that doesnt work anymore al you do is this
Make album folder
and make the pic 200*200 or 80*80
And name it the same as the album (with the same caps and everything)
and paste it in the album folder here watch

I got Panic at the disco <- see how the P is only in caps? you gotta do that
you name it exactly like the album

Done that (see previous posts), still doesn't work. I must be inept.

Have noticed that when using MTP mode (as far as I can before it screws up) that it creates a folder called 'album' and puts two files for each album, a .jpg file and a .alb file. Deleting the .alb file stops album art fro working. Any thoughts?

well with the latest firmware i go it working this way.

album name...for eg. "Still Fantasy"....this is entered into the song's id3 tag. The filename of the song doesn't matter.

Filename of the pic is "Still Fantasy.jpg"

The location of the pic and song is together under the MUSIC folder. Can be within the MUSIC folder or in a sub-directory also works fine. Of course if a lyric file is present the picture doesn't appears. Not the best way for album art, but it'll do for now.

Oh yes....i resized the image to 200x200 as done by those above.

No need for any "Album" / "Albums" folder. Just put a certain album's song into its' own folder, under the MUSIC folder, edit the id3 tag (or pic filename) to match, and voila! instant gratification.

I see kennyboy you like Jay Chou?

So does this new firmware play music in subfolders in MUSIC directory?

Kennyboy's method is the most efficient method of getting album art to work, however i'm more used to album art ala' winamp style (that is, it reads cover.jpg
in whatever subfolder the album is in, however that causes problems for people who dont organise their albums into folders >=] )

@ Iverson, yes, the 2.00.1.1 firmware has fixed up playback from subfolders. Unfortunately, photo transitions are still very unsmooth.
