    updating library

with every firmware to come, updating the library takes longer and longer. its now gotten to the point where its almost unbearable. with over 500 songs, on the newest firmware it takes about 5 minutes or more. I've tried searching the forum and found some "noindexing" program and folowed all the instuctions word for word but it doesnt seem to work. it indicates its for the SL so that could be the problem right there. or it might be that it was for an older firmware. well anyways, i have a SP and there must be some sort of workaround i would hope.

Yeah, if you go into your M6 in My Computer, right click, select properties and select Archive, it should solve your problem. Hope this helps.

my m6 is in the same situation, and i just see it as a hard drive, i didnt found any archive options there, i got my meizu yesterday btw!! is amazing!!.

EDIT: I Just found how to do that, this had no effect it takes 3 minutes to star scanning! and then 2 more minutes to end scanning!!!

    is annoying!

you could also go back to 2.003.2 like i did, library update was a LOT faster on the older firmwares.

or u cud try noindexing again by doing these steps EXACTLY :

after copying all the stuff u wanted to, run no indexing in the root folder (the place u store ur firmware updates). once its done. disconnect ur player and turn on. it shud update library once. after that, whenever u switch off and turn on again, it does not update.

HOWEVER if u add even 1 NEW FILE to the player u have to run noindexing again before disconnecting as the player will start updating library again. so make sure u run noindexing after EACH TIME U ADD A NEW FILE.
and of course everytime that happens it will update ONCE b4 not needing to update again.
same cycle occurs every time u add a new file.

According to thread with a few tips but don't remember the location, you can hold the play button while disconnecting it from your USB cable. That would prevents the library update. Didn't work for me, though.

Yes, it is a bit slower than it used to, but it's not a huge issue. My M6 2G is filled with a bit over 400 songs and it takes about a minute and a half before it's back to the play screen, including the rather odd wait before it actually starts scanning the files. Mine is filled with mp3 and ogg. So where the "with over 500 songs, on the newest firmware it takes about 5 minutes or more" is coming from... weird...

But it's not as if you do this 10 times a day, is it? I'm in the middle of creating a skin (only situation I can imagine it's a real problem) and what I do is I just copy the contents of my MUSIC directory to a temporary place on my machine. Then delete all music, except like 10 songs or so, for viewing. And when I'm done Gimping for the day, I just copy back all the contents.

I'm not saying they shouldn't fix it (it is a bug that wasn't present before), but it doesn't seem like the huge problem everyone makes of it. Just my €0.02, though, since I'm not too much affected by it.

Yeah, that's the one I was referring to! However, it doesn't work for me. Checked again if I did something wrong, but nope: I plug it in... wait... 'safely remove' it (running KDE on Linux), hold the play/pause button, unplug it and there it goes: library update.

UPDATE: if I do not use the 'safely remove' option and just disconnect it from the cable (holding the button), it does work. Go figure!

You can also stop the library update by pressing the menu button.
The player wont find any songs then, but its good for testing the changes in your skin.

I like to preview with album art, since I have a script for that as well that makes it look like it's on a shiny surface. Will be releasing that soon for the Linux people out here, soon. See attachment.

theres a solution for the updating library now. Upon unplugging the usb cable when turned off, hold down the play/power button. Also hold it down before ejecting the drive when turned on.

That was mentioned in an earlier post.

The play/power button trick only works when the player was connected being turned off (charging).

Here is a better method of avoiding the "Update Music Library" always processing all of your files after charging which does not require any special button presses while powering on/off:
