I also run the 2.003.2 on one M6 (no more mine actually) and I may try a newer firmware on of these days

this because , on another M6 , I have to stick to even 2.002 ! otherwise the LCD ( SP both) exhibits too many visible artefacts ; some are inherent to the screen video curve level , some a consequence of the video compression

and among M6 firmwares some will more pronounce than others color banding and (dark) clouding ; that is when the darks and black would look as 'negative'

the only cure , but with limited effects though, is to reduce the britness accordingly ; but this cannot reset a normal black level , and a normal video curve at the hardware level

color banding with the M6 is even more difficult to rule since the lcd has a rather limited 'gamut'

    so overall it is some kind of evidence (?) of discrepancy among the LCDs that Meizu gets from Samsung and the firmwareS which give some limited control on the video level ;

and since on the same M6 some firmwares ( the more recent) can really 'overbright' the screen , then it is not only some hardware issue .

the choice of the overall best looking firmware is almost a matter of try them all ! enjoy... :D

with such difference(s) among M6s lcd screens it becomes quite difficult to release a firmware that acts the same way on every M6 lcd , as they don't have all the same black level , same video level , same gamut ...

(here are two M6 SP I have had , with the same firmware, same overall settings ; thus proving no all Samsung lcd screens are alike at all...)

    http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/4...2300004pj6.jpg

as a consequence , this is also why sometimes we see so many blockiness in dark areas ; where if you look on your screen computer it looks ok (plain dark) , while if you watch on your M6 it may be okay or bad

a avery basic cure , at the compression level, is using some trick like evaluating pixels against some threshold which sets all below pixels to full black ; a very primitive filter indeed and as such ironically difficult to use if you don't want to ...add even more artefacts ! then I doubt it can be used (without prior seeing the effect on *each* movie ) with any batch drag and drop encode utility .

now M6 is definitely ageing , and the newer PMPs just don't need all this attention to frame rate , image rotation, care for black level, color banding, etc...

but I will miss this little beauty , that is (more) difficult to make shine ; and it still can

look up batman, its a video converter for m6, you get a setting there "darker" , wich does exactly that, its very easy to use and works good!

    thnx for the advice

I will make it short since it is not the right thread for this , but I have found so many design flaws in Batman (and the author did not like that; not my fault !) that as long as they are not fixed I will keep the 'hard way' , as some say , to get even better results in general and much more overall control ; now as a convenient drag and drop utility I do like it , yes

It is a almost a different case every time if you set a threshold ; so either you set it , for precaution, so low that this is useless or you set a 'general' value which will hardly meets each case with possibly terrible artefacts ; hence a shift of the black level is more secure while here less appropriate/efficient

now this is -first- a bad point of the M6 , not any encoder's fault ; while some aspects do concern the way the codec deals with 'almost' uniform dark areas without any blockiness . But it is no role for the codec to fix screen problems !

what I pointed is that all these differencies between LCDs and the weirdness that firmware versions will (almost randomly from one to the next !) behave differently as for the screen video curve/level , make things even more tricky, and does not help for a one and permanent fix

I've just got my M6 SL today, and the 2004.6 firmware was already installed on that device (I think the importer did this, but nevermind).

If I have two playlists, say playlist A and U. If I'm playing a song under playlist A and I want to switch to a song in playlist U (so I select the song), it sometimes takes over 40(!) seconds before the song starts to play...

    Is this a normal behavior?

you have the slowest firmware available to date, that might be the cause for these extremely slow responses, i'm staying with 2.003.2 until rockbox is finished, i will not update to official meizu firmware unless they actually do somthing about the slow responses and the killer "library update" wich took 5 minutes for me at 2.004.6, so perhaps you could try with the 2003.2 firmware and see if that is any faster?

Mmm, does the 2003.2 firmware also work with the SL version? I thought it did not, but can someone confirm that?

And how is the Rockbox project doing so far? Will there be support for the SL (which I think has quite a lot of hardware differences)?

Ah, nm, I found some information: MeizuM6Port < Main < TWiki

    hi!

    @ roelandb
did i understand this right? rockbox is under developing for the meizu now? i thought there're too less information about the hardware?

and regarding the video brightness issue
did anyone recongnize a change in brightness while playing video files in this firmware version?
it's too bright when playing. if you wind for or backwards the gamma curve is much better, it's perfect (black is black). i just bought my m6 2 months ago, so i started with firmware 2004.xx. should i try fw 2002 to get a better contrast? can anyone confirm this? trane maybe ?
    cheers

In the new firmware I can't see what time it is when I play music. Before I could see the time on the top of the screen, but now it just says "Now playing" or something like that. Someone else who have noticed this? I thought the clock was useful, so I miss it a little.

not true - I auto synchronize in WMP11 via MSC with no problem. MTP is what Microsoft uses with the Media Rights technology, and is the only way I have had any success with album art and playlists via wmp11, but since both of those things don't really work well for the M6 in general, not a big deal.

I just loaded 2004 6 and just resynced via wmp 11 with no problems

you can change this behavior in the options:
settings -> date and time -> title time = on

and your clock will be back in the "now playing" dialog

It has the newest release date of all FWs but i dunno for which player?
visit: meizu.com --> download and choose "MiniPlayer" then it is on the top
    thanx in advance for explanation!

Maybe they are coming out with a new TS MiniPlayer?
