Hacked Zune to work with iTunes - What about our MEIZU's FW ;)

    Hi folks!

I just noticed a nice post over at the guys of Engadget. As it seems some hackers managed to tweak the Zune FW a little bit so the device now works seamlessly with iTunes.

Anyone skilled enough to take the task on the M6's FW?

Isn't there software that lets you use standard USB MP3 players in iTunes? There was anyway.
Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

Maybe Windows users don't (actually I already expected this response) but for the Macies out there it would come in very handy... Well I know there are almost none of them around in our forum so I'll be raising this flag alone. *haha*

I know this isn't a realistic thing for the M6 so far but I still liked the idea...

For the people who want it I agree with what Err0r said. Every drag-drop mp3-player should be the same right? It would be much more practical to make a hacked itunes-version or something that accepts everything :P

On the other hand i'm not really feeling a urge to use iTunes.

Yes there is. It is called "SyncTunes". I hear from several people though that it is quite difficult as far as impossible to mount your MEIZU Player. I for myself didn't get it to work on Leopard 10.5.1 so far. The problem seems to be that the M6 has different names in the Finder and as a UNIX mount point. So this workaround is a dead end atm...

For those who still want to try: Grab the software here! (Mac)

Right... there are other similar projects for Mac out too (Thrupp or iPodless) but it's always oldschool playlist syncing which gets a bit on my nerves. I would want a full sync support. Otherwise I prefer to fill the storage by hand.

Relax man... Please stop that stupid Apple bashing. As a Mac user of course I like iTunes but I would never say that an iPod is THE player to own - especially when it comes to sound quality. Apple is not a bad company after all. They have some great ideas and the best OS (next to free Linux) I know. No one forces anyone to buy their products. If you don't care about iTunes that's fine but please don't just send those people that do straight back to Apple because we're MEIZU fans too after all.

huh ? The player acts as a simple plug'n'pray USB Stick, mountable like any other USB Stick. No secrets there. Just set your Meizu to USB Mode = MSC.

I think they mean that they want software to organise music.
If you are having trouble with your player, please visit this thread first and try the steps before you panic. Most likely you will be able to fix your player easily using the steps listed.

Yeah it's super strange but trust me: Even if set to MSC it won't recognize on Leo 10.5.1. Maybe next update will change that cause I hear it works on Tiger. Of course you can access the player like a USB stick but it doesn't work with the software "SyncTunes" because of the problem I described above.

Works fine on Leo 10.5.2 for me

Any news on this? I wrote a rsync shellscript which I will be happy to share here, but it's not that special, it just syncs the music files, nothing fancy with playlists, so if anyone knows a better way, please share it

The only reason for me to use would be an ipod (but I aint no)
There are Billions of Music Manager managing Meizu Players, for examle my favourite one: J River Media Centre (but any other would do as well)
Why hacking Meizu Firmware for that grap???

OK, as the owner of a brand-spanking new MacBook (2.2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo running 10.5.4 "leopard"), I can tell you without a doubt that the M6 does not mount as a simple USB 'brick'. In fact, it doesn't mount at all. It's visible to the OS through Disk Utility, but it refuses to mount the disk because it says there's an error in the disk table...then it "fixes" the error and still refuses to mount the disk because the same error still exists. The only option is to completely reformat the M6; that works fine until you upgrade the firmware on the player; then you're back to square one.

    Grrrrrr.

Adding insult to injury, simply connecting the M6 to the MacBook does something bad that prevents the M6 from 'seeing' the music files when you press play. You can still look in the folders (through the Music folder and the Browser folder) and everything still exists; you just can't use any of it.

As I sit here next to my old-school iBook running OS 9.2.2, I can confirm that the M6 works just the way you'd expect - I can even "fix" the disappearing file problem, but it's awfully complicated to manage music files on a separate computer.

I love Macs - they do what they're supposed to and they're nice to look at, which is the exact opposite of Windows PC's - but I gotta say, this is really working my nerves.
I can either be 'smart' or I can be 'pretty'. Today, we're going with 'pretty'.
