Exactly... it's gotten to the point where I hate my player and hate the company that made it because of the crap software and the crap updates to it. I'm waiting for my player to die, because I'm too cheap to buy another one while it still works somewhat. The hardware keeps going, unfortunately.
When I'm outside, passing cars and trains look tempting. I predict any day now my Meizu M6 is just gonna 'slip' from my hands right under the heavy iron wheels of a locomotive.

And oh... what a surprise to see yet another firmware that fails to turn my MP3 player into something that can actually play MP3s without a problem.

I noticed that when updating music library, my 8gig m6 would always stall on the FLAC files, so I got rid of them. The result: much quicker update time. Call me deaf, but I don't need any flack from FLAC files.

Good description of the feelings that M6 arise!!

I thought about giving it to some cousin or young familiar with no money to buy any player, but I donīt deserve anything bad to them and donīt want them to despair with this shit. So Iīve also been tempted by running cars and trains :-)

This player is a lost cause - I got my kid a Creative Zen, and love the interface and feature set so much more, after waiting forever for Meizu to address basic functionality issues
I got my kid a Creative Zen as well for Xmas instead of a Sony because I was told by the dealer that no proprietary software was needed. Making it work under Linux is a pain and mostly only works for music. After a few weeks use (too late for a refund), I really believe I should not have spent a cent in this gadget : very average sound, very limited formats support (ogg ?), sooo picky on the MP3 you put in it that it needs a reset every time I listen to my 12 years old MP3. Video is OK, but desynchronization is much worse than on the M6. Ergonomy is fine but so is it on the M6 (IMO).
Oh, just one last thing : the software is provided for Windows but you need to upgrade to XP SP2 to make it (half) work. Video conversion is still not working after the upgrade, and the only Windows system we had at home has now a lot of trouble.

I am quite agnositc on this matter, but I just bought a M6 SL 8GB for my wife, much less costly than the Creative. There seems to be no unique truth (as suspected).

Ugh, these long library rebuild times!

These long library update times are killing me! Seriously, I'd estimate 5x longer than in firmware 2.004.4. The new 2.004.6 posted on the forum doesn't make it any better either.

I tried to stick with it for a couple of weeks, but now I'm reverting back to 2.004.4 until this is addressed.

is the library update really taking longer since 2.004.5 ? i'll try to downgrade than, becouse i am getting really annoyed by it also...
the problem is i like to use the .CUE support very much, but that was added since 2.004.5 i think.

Absolutely it's longer. I wish I'd thought of timing it, because I think it would be striking to post the times here. I have ~4 gbs of music, and with 2.004.4 it probably takes 20 seconds to update the library.

Compare that with ~2 minutes for the newer firmware. What's worse is that the player will sit there for ~30 seconds before it even starts to update the library list.

We need more information. Is the player showing any error message (like "no ressource") on the screen?
please describe how you performed the firmware update process and which firmware version was on the player before.

Totally agree with you. I dropped my player onto a tile-floor and the back came off. And I was so happy. But the damn player just kept on going. And the back attached back on without a hitch.
To bad the hardware isn't as crappy as the software...

Instead of waiting for a crash why don´t you sell it (eg. on ebay)?

I don't really wan't to pay for a new player (cause I'm cheap, and also just a student) and selling my m6 wouldn't cover even half the cost for the replacements I'm looking at (iriver clix2 / iaudio cowon d2 or iaudio cowon a3 / archos 605 ) ...

There are none, but the Rockbox project (alternate OS for the M6) will change it.

No, just place them directly on your player like where you find music, video folder, etc.
