    FLAC bugs with 2004.4 FW

    I have been using my M6 SL for several weeks now and really enjoy the players build quality and sound quality compared to my iRiver and Apple players I have used for several years. This is really a sleeping dragon in the MP3 player world.

    My collection is 98% FLAC encoded files. I have noticed that several things appear to occur for every file I play back.

    1) The album info is garbage or incorrect in the Now Playing Screen and Album browsing.

    Example:
    In Between Days
    The Cure
    RTIST= Thu Cree Door

    This should read as follows:
    In Between Days
    The Cure
    Head On The Door

    When I browse ALBUMS I get the same junk title as above: RTIST= Thu Cree Door

    2) The Visualiser (Graphic Analyzer) does not work while playing FLAC files.
    3) Cover Art is not visible playing FLAC files even after using the naming conventions for the .jpg file within the same folder as the music files. I assume this is due to the ALBUM names being screwed.

    I have used TAG&RENAME, MP3TAG V2.28 and MEDIAMONKEY for tagging this same Cure album to find the culprit. They all show the proper tag information. Even WMP11 shows the proper info using the plugin filter for FLAC.

    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Rex, I have an SP with S2.003.2 and using FLAC all the time. I don't experience your problems 1+3. My tags get displayed correctly and my cover art gets shown. So there is hope for you to get yours running as well.
    I am using foobar to convert my music to FLAC.

    I have now tried to start from the beginning with a single CD and test the results.

    Ripped a CD with EAC to FLAC. Took the FLAC files and dropped into the M6SL. The Album info is still crap.

    Ripped the same CD with Foobar to FLAC. Same crap album title.

    Anything I am missing?

    Thanks nice2know_u

    I have sent a PM with the link. It is an example of the most common issue.

    Thanks again!

    I have loaded the song you sent me onto my player, and it shows up fine!

    Marching Bands of Manhattan
    Death Cab For Cutie
    Plans

    Try reloading your firmware, here's the link to the 2.004.4 (SL)
    Also you can try the new beta firmware (2.004.5)

    Let me know how it went

    Problem solved!

    Thanks for the help. I am glad it confirmed that the FLAC files were ok. With over 1100 CDs (14,869 songs) ripped so far I did not want to find an issue with the tagging. :eek:

    I reloaded the FW (2004.4) from the link you provided and had the same issues again. I then loaded the FW (2004.4) from the MEIZU site and it corrected the issue. I then loaded the linked file again and the issue returned. Back to the MEIZU link and we are good again. I do not know why that would be but I have confirmed it twice.

    The new FW (Beta 2004.5) appears to not be corrupted.

    Thanks again for the help and effort.

    Spoke too soon!

    I formatted my player and loaded FW 2004.5 as a test. It now appears that certain files I have may be corrupted tag wise.

    Using MSC mode I drag a single song into the MUSIC folder as a test. The previous issue with Album title exists.

    RTIST=The Curee Door

    Using MTP mode I used MediaMonkey 2.5.5.998, I synced a different track from the same album and received the same results.

    RTIST=The Curee Door

    What the M6 is attempting to displayed is ARTIST= The Cure The Head On The Door

    I cannot find in any of my tag editors any indication something is wrong or different from the ones that are correct.

    I have some of the offending files uploaded to a server. Please PM me and I can send you the links for your own tests. I would certainly appreciate others trying these files out and seeing the results.

    THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!
