It's a good lossless format... like it's FLAC.

I receive some albums in APE and I don't want to convert them... valuable albums as are the 2 first Magna Carta albums... ripped by a friend in England.

On the other I expect that Meizu adding this format to its assortment have done a good job... for the moment I'm disappointed... software is not managing correctly APE TAGs

That's a good idea to support APE files... Obviously, the m6 storage capacity is not enough to really enjoy the APE features... I think APE is more usefull on hard drive or largest capacity player... They'd better add musepack (mpc) support

And to answer to your question, I guess ape tags are used in APE files (yes that's the same name). I guess these tags are also used in flac or mpc files...

APE files can use APE tags V1, which is Winamp compatible, and V2, suggested to be uses by Monkey's Audio. APE can also use ID3 tags.
None of them are working for me... then Artist and Albums appears as Unknown in my Meizu player.

I've tried APE files too, but they show as unknown artist and albums. Don't know how to change that (under properties in windows, there is no option to change artist and album names anyways...)

Thanks for the info iversonjack... I've done everything I've imagined to make my player read the tags which is the problem. I've tried with all the possible tagging using 3 tag managers: Mp3tag, Abander TagControl and Tag&Rename.
I've read some complains in Meizu/BBS concerning the failures of APE files, but it's not easy to understand them .
Anyway the files are played very well and sound is great!

.ape files are oftern used in conjuction with .cue files which are ASCII text files saved with a .cue extention, these contain information on each track in an album and are stored in the album folder. Artist, Album info is then read from the .cue file.

From comments I have seen on Meizu BBS engineers are still working on integration of .cue files into .ape support.

    .cue file example:

    TITLE "Live in Berlin, 1998"
    PERFORMER "Faithless"
    FILE "faithless - live in berlin.mp3" MP3
    TRACK 01 AUDIO
    TITLE "Reverence"
    PERFORMER "Faithless"
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
    TRACK 02 AUDIO
    TITLE "She's My Baby"
    PERFORMER "Faithless"
    INDEX 01 06:42:00
    TRACK 03 AUDIO
TITLE "Take The Long Way Home"
    PERFORMER "Faithless"
    INDEX 01 10:54:00
    TRACK 04 AUDIO
    TITLE "Insomnia"
    PERFORMER "Faithless"
    INDEX 01 17:04:00
    TRACK 05 AUDIO
    TITLE "Bring The Family Back"
    PERFORMER "Faithless"
    INDEX 01 25:44:00
    TRACK 06 AUDIO
    TITLE "Salva Mea"
    PERFORMER "Faithless"
    INDEX 01 30:50:00
    TRACK 07 AUDIO
    TITLE "Dirty Old Man"
    PERFORMER "Faithless"
    INDEX 01 38:24:00
    TRACK 08 AUDIO
    TITLE "God Is A DJ"
    PERFORMER "Faithless"
    INDEX 01 42:35:00

So this is CUE feature!!!... like the CUE sheet of a PC.
There is only one issue in this... this is used when APE file comes in one file (also is used when it comes in tracks) to separate tracks... who must create this cue file?.
It's not a easy task to fill this data... I have a program that do this and its called CUE Splitter... but to do it by hand is really tricky.
This means madman that tag won't be used... as it is today in the latest firmwares?

    As a general information:
I've read of this CUE too in Teclast firmwares. My Teclast C260 have the same failure... don't manage any kind of tags then "unknown artist /album"
But my Actions ATJ-2135 manage pretty well APEv2 tag to generate playlists of APE files.
