I think my Meizu MiniPlayer SP is dead :(

Well, I was experiencing a few problems with the MP3 player and I did a format which also erased the firmware (I held down rewind for 8 seconds to achieve this) and yes I did mean to do this. I tried to put the latest firmware back on and now I think it's bricked because all I see is a white screen. The last time I did an update on it, it gave me the status of what it was doing...this time all I got was a white screen that wont go away! I held down the menu and the power button and then plugged in the usb cable and windows was able to find it (Trying to use DFU Tools). I did a search for the drivers and I missed a step so I wanted to start all over again. I held down menu and power and then plugged in the USB again, and this time it wont work! Windows will not find it! So should I just let the battery run out then try again? I'm clueless and pretty mad right now! So can anyone please attempt to help me out with this? Much appreciated.

It isn't updating though...it's just at a white screen. The white screen isn't going away.

Then you did something wrong during firmware update. Revive with DFU.

If you read clearly I was trying to do that. But I messed up at one point and do it all over again. I hold down the M button and Power now and plug in the usb and windows wont recognize it. It worked at first. But now it wont work.

Do you mean that Windows found the player at first, but now doesn't? With DFU tools, your player will NOT be recognized by Windows, only by the program server, which is the point of the DFU tools. It should only be used when your player isn't recognized by Windows. If Windows recognized the player, then it's just a matter of dragging and dropping the EBN and Resource files back in.

With DFU, the only thing that will show that your player is connected is when the Download button on the server is available. If you can click the Download button while holding Menu/Power, then DFU will work. It may take more than one pass for it to actually work. I've had to use it as many as 10 times to recover players, and sometimes it recovers in steps, with small progressions, until it's fully recovered.

People give up on DFU too quickly, keep trying. As long as you installed the program and files correctly it will work.

I installed that and windows detected it as a DFU server at first, then I messed up at some point and decided to try to do it over again. Now when I hold down M button and power it doesn't work anymore. Windows wont recognize it as a dfu server or whatever.

jarmarc has explained it so nicely, you should read it again. Not Windows (explorer.exe) recognizes the device, the dfu tools does. It is reported to been repeated 17 times until it worked. So don't give up that early.

Judging from this...windows is supposed to recognize it as a DFU server or something...> DFU Tools

that's a driver installation, but still the device does not show in Windows Explorer. You have found the right thread where madman and the others explain it very well. I hope you can revive your player ! Keep on trying

Now it's just stuck at a white screen and it makes the click noise whenever I touch the pad. I can also just plug it in and see the root menu in windows. But whenever I unplug it...it just stays at a white screen...nothing happens.

It sounds like, just like all the other white screen after firmware updates, all 100+ of them here, you used the wrong firmware update. Check the back of your player to see if it's TP or SP version, and use the T or S version on it again.

Try this first: Go to your control panel, go to System, and go to your device manage. Look under Universal Serial Bus, and UNINSTALL the DFU Server Device (It only shows up when you hold m and play and plug into USB, keeping both buttons held the entire time). Then pull it out of the USB, rest your fingers, then hold the buttons again and plug it back in. Direct windows to the DFU tools folder again and let it install the driver all over again. Do not let go of those 2 buttons. Immediately after it does, use DFU Tools again and load the right type of firmware, keeping the buttons held the entire time. Once it's done, and it shows the Close box highlighted (it might still say Enumerating, but it's done), click that and unplug the player from USB and let go of the buttons.

After that, hold play down, and let it do its thing. It will say it has no resource file, so plug it back in and drag and drop the resource file from the DFU Tools folder to the M6, which should show up as a usb device again. Turn it off, then turn it back on again, and it will load the resource and come back.

If it fails again, keep uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. For some stupid reason, I was trying this on another player, and after installing and loading firmware, I had to try again, and it would keep giving me the stupid error messages in DFU Tools, pissing me off. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and it ran fine again, and then it loaded the firmware. Too bad this player is fucked up in another way, though, so I can't use it.

I did exactly what you said and got this error when trying to get it to search the DFU tools folder...

"The location you specified does not contain any device information files

Please enter another location or uncheck the 'Include this location in the search' box"

I got the folder in on my desktop btw...I don't know if that is a problem or not.

Thanks for all the help everyone. This was my dumb mistake because I was putting the .EBN file in the place where I extracted the folder instead of actually going to the program folder in windows...and putting it there. 8+ hours of trying to fix the mp3 player just to find out that I was just being dumb! Anyways, thanks for all the help. MY MEIZU LIVES AGAIN!
