    Which Firmware?

Okay, I feel a little stupid asking this question, but here goes:

I ordered a 4GB Meizu M6 through amazon.com that should come in this week. In my search for the perfect mp3-player, I've read that there is different firmware for the Dane-Elec version and the Meizu version and that the instruction manual does not always list the right firmware link. Is this true? What are the differences and would the wrong firmware goof up my new player?

    Thanks.

D-E uses their own firmware for the M6 player
The original firmware is considered to be more useful by many

Your player is a new player therefor an SP player which indicated it has Samsung parts in it.(no need to go into details here)

When you upgrade the firmware make sure you use the S-firmware(NOT the T-firmware as this is for older players!)

Upgrading your firmware is pretty easy if you follow the steps correctly..
don't hesitate to give it a try because even if you don't manege to do it(but you will cause its easy) you can always fix the problem with the DFU tools.

search the forum (search button is in the top right menubar of the screen) on how to upgrade your firmware and what firmware to use...

feel free to ask questions of course!

Thanks Job. So I can use either DE or Meizu firmware? What are the differences?

I've already seen the How-To on upgrading in the FAQ and the directions seem easy enough to follow. Am not afraid to give it a go, just like to be prepared, I guess.

Last time I tried the DE FW, I lost my FM radio and volume was capped at 35.

Upgrading is really easy. I'm running 2.003.2.

Interesting. Is there a reason I would want the DE firmware over the Meizu firmware (2.003.2)?

I'm not clear why DE also supplies firmware for the M6.

D-E firmware is just a modified version of the Meizu firmware. The chages are basic and don't effect most users.
    • Do not download the firmware from the Dane Digital website as it is only the EU version and will include the volume limitation and disable the FM.
    • D-E will always be behind Meizu in releasing firware upgrades, especially for the US. Because they must comply with EU restrictions, they cannot post the US firmware on their site since this would allow EU users to easily circumvent the restrictions.
    • D-E background vs. Meizu background. The D-E logo stays in the background if you use the standard D-E firmware.
    • D-E firmware supports several additional languages out of the box for their customers in EU countries. Meizu only supports English and Chinese out of the box.
    • There are two versions of D-E firmware, US and EU. Due to restrictions in some EU countires, volume is limited to 35 (40 for Meizu and US D-E), and deactivates the FM function. Meizu and D-E US versions do not have these limitations.
    • All SP firmware is interchangeable. Please note that depending on when it was produced, most of the D-E players ship with older versions of firmware. This is because D-E buys in large quantities and carries stock for several months between orders.
    • Read your Manual carefully for upgrading instructions. Manuals used to say to download from Meizu's website, but D-E was considering having that changed in future printings to limit it to D-E firmware. Since the boxes are now sealed, which they were not before, I have no way to verify the information in the new manuals.

Is it also possible that the D-E version is incompatible with skins? Mine reports as fw S 2.003.2, but no skin I've tried has worked...

This might happen, because there are 3 different versions of the 2.003.2 FW.

I use the latest official meizu -FW and don't know where to download those other releases.
All i know, is that there are 3 versions with little differences in the numbers for the pictures (of the skin) , so they don't work together.
One of them is called 'beta',but they are all named '2.003.2'.

I had the D-E firmware loaded and put the DarkDrop skin on it with no problems.
