Playlists - computer generated lists don't work on player?

    Hello!

I can't seem to get my playlists to actually work on the player. I've tried creating them in MediaMonkey, WinAmp, Playlist Creator 3, WinAmp for Mac (classic), Audion for Mac (classic) and I've even gone so far as to create them in Notepad, SimpleText (for Mac) and Excel (for Mac and Windows).

Everything goes smoothly until I try to use the playlist on the m6; when I navigate to it, I get the option to open it or cancel and when I open it, it's empty except for a delete command, which deletes the playlist itself.

On one hand, I'm sure I'm making some bone-headed mistake, but on the other, I find it hard to believe that I manage to make the same mistake
every single time, on every single program.

*On a related note, I've created a playlist on the m6, copied it to the computer and edited the songs or changed the name of the actual playlist and, guess what? That playlist won't work when I transfer it back to the player, either!

I've taken to creating a folder of songs on the computer, editing the songs inside to play in the order I want, adding the name of the folder as the "album" name for all of the songs and then transferring the whole darn thing to the m6...that works, but now I've got multiple copies of many song files (one copy in each folder "album", plus a copy in the folders organized by artist). This little workaround means that if I play all tracks on the m6 in random order, I will hear certain tracks repeatedly (of course, each one will have a different album name associated, depending on the folder it was in).

    HELP!
I can either be 'smart' or I can be 'pretty'. Today, we're going with 'pretty'.

I use Media Monkey because it is the only player that can copy playlists correctly to the M6 (Maybe there are more but I don't know). If you make playlists from your files in MediaMonkey and (right-click) send to your M6, the whole files and the playlist (to the playlist folder with right syntax) will be copied to M6.
And there won't be duplicates, playlists can intersect with each other.

when you copy music to M6, you must use menu-music-update music info, by hand, then the playlist can run.
Another way, find file and play once, then this file's music info can run.

OK, I'm back with another question: is there any way to get the title of the playlist to show when it's playing? For example, if I've got the same song on more than one playlist, I can't tell which playlist I'm actually listening to...

My original "solution" to the problem of transferring playlists created on the computer was to transfer each playlist as a folder full of mp3 files, essentially creating a multi-artist album...while this allowed me to assign custom artwork to each playlist and display the name of the playlist with each track (as the album name), it also meant that I had more than one copy of the mp3 files (a copy in each folder, as well as a copy in the artist's folder). Once I hit 10 playlist folders, things just got messy.

Anyway, my question boils down to this: is there a way to show the name of the playlist while it's playing?

If you put your .m3u playlists in the SYSTEM folder, how do you access them?
I get no SYSTEM folder in Browser mode.

Actually, as of today, putting the playlists in the SYSTEM folder doesn't work. I don't know why -since it did work before- but it doesn't...now, putting the playlists in the PLAYLIST folder works (and it didn't before).

    Playlist format

Playlists should be in the .m3u format. When creating playlists make sure that they are generated using the absolute path rather than a relative path. Also assure that there are no references to drive letters in the path.

So for instance this is what you want to see if you open a playlist using Notepad or any generic text editor.
    \MUSIC\Mickey Avalon - Mickey Avalon\02 so rich, so pretty.mp3
    \MUSIC\Pendulum, The\In Silico\03 - Propane Nightmares.mp3
    \MUSIC\Pendulum, The\In Silico\06 - The Other Side.mp3

You do NOT want to see this
    ..\MUSIC\Mickey Avalon - Mickey Avalon\02 so rich, so pretty.mp3
    ..\MUSIC\Pendulum, The\In Silico\03 - Propane Nightmares.mp3
    ..\MUSIC\Pendulum, The\In Silico\06 - The Other Side.mp3

    or this
    E:\MUSIC\Mickey Avalon - Mickey Avalon\02 so rich, so pretty.mp3
    C:\MUSIC\Pendulum, The\In Silico\03 - Propane Nightmares.mp3
    C:\MUSIC\Pendulum, The\In Silico\06 - The Other Side.mp3

You can for the most part ignore any line that starts with the # symbol. I havne't had any trouble but you could troubleshoot by stripping those lines out if you have your paths correct but are still experiencing difficulty.

    I hope this helps,
    Adam
