.rar

i may have missed this somewhere else but im having trouble unzipping the .rar files for skins. Am i supposed to use a specific program or should windows xp be able to do that for me?

I've never understood why .rar is the preference in this community. Why don't Meizu et al use .zip? It would be much easier for the average Windows user to be able to handle without having to resort to additional geeky applications just to be able to get access to some files.

because RAR looks back to a long history of success. A lot of people still use it and paid even money for it (including me). There are excellent free alternative programs like 7zip, but I have found none that's better in all the disciplines. Most modern compressors have .rar decompressing abilites too (like 7zip).

Paying for software??? not me but i like rar... (i downloaded winrar) i never paid for software/games/movies/music in my intire live and i think everyone who has internet should do that

Hmmm never paid for anything? I know I get a lot free as well, but often people are more inspired to great new software/movies/music to make money not to just give it away.

Anyway I have used 7zip for awhile for .rar and it works fine for that as well as stuff. True XP can't handle rar but the winxp unzip isn't all that great anyway.

There is nothing wrong in paying people who made a good job. WinRar earned it, it's a great program that can do much more than just compress files.
That's the problem with the kids on the net today, they don't value the work of others anymore, just their own. The social charm of the early days of the internet gets lost more and more each day.

Just download WINRAR.

rar seems to be more popular online then zip... dont know why
justd ownload one of the free programms and it will take zip and rar and more probably...

tell the truth i dont remember ever seeing .rar before i got my meizu...but about the free/not appreciating other peoples work thing, its great if you feel like someone did such a good job you should pay them to be able to use their program but i dont like to spend money and today where for every one program that costs money their are at least 4 free ones that do the exact same thing sometimes better, for free, why bother...look at firefox

Why sould i pay if i can get it for free? just download the corporate version, you doesn't need a patch or anything to use it:D

I assume you have never done programming work yourself. Why do you pay for your dinner at McDonald's but not for your software ?
Both the BigMac and the program require real people who do their work and offer their service to you.
They have a family, kids and sorrows like you. Do you work for free ?

Yes, sometimes i work for free. I give my time to the "red cross", voluntarily, because i like helping the others with my abilities, and i don't need or want money for that !

I admire that, really. But you compare an act of welfare to software development, which are two worlds. I have not seen a bleeding traffic victim yet where all that could save his life was a data compression technology.

if i didnt have to pay for McDonald's i would eat there as much as i could...and besides the freeware programmers obviously dont need or want the money otherwise they would charge you...so no worries about their families

@b2636 : you are the living example for the "take what you can, and never give" attitude . That's so sad. You can just hope that you never become old, weak or poor, because then you would see where your attitude will lead you to.

Actually i'm grogramming every day (visual studio/visual basic .net)

Software is not like stealing, like when you're stealing your meal at the mc donalds the mc donnalds has a meal less so its bad too them, but when you download software knowone sees it because its a copy, else you sould use freeware and don't pay they still dont get money!

Here in the netherlands you will pay 36 (euro) for winrar, i think the shop will take 50% and the firm who sell it to the shop about 25% the boss of the programmers will take 20 so the programmers will only take around the 5% so thats only 1.8 (euro) for the complete team maby there are 10 persons working at a program like this so reservs every one 0,18 (euro).... this is only a fast estimate!

or maby the boss just give them money for each hour they programming, then only the boss gets some less money not the people who made a good program!
