bege2461, It is most likely that the firmware is in a .rar file type format which is like a zip file. I do not know if mac's have builtin support for .rar files but if you do a google search ".rar mac" you will find quite a few apps for the mac that handle .rar files (UnRar-X, MacRar etc..).
If you install one of these you will be able to extract the contents of the rar file which will be 2 files, M6.EBN & resource.bin. I have no idea how these mac apps work but you should find an "Extract" command somewhere.
You need to then copy both of these files onto your player disconnect and then restart the player which will load the M6.EBN at boot up ( a bit of screen flashing and then the player will shutdown. Restart the player a second time and the resource.bin will load at startup and then you should be ok.
Make sure you use the right version firmware for your player SP\TP and after the M6.EBN file loads and the screen goes black wait a few seconds before you restart the player a second time to be sure the file has loaded completely.
