    M6 Dane-Elec Firmware

I recently bought my M6 4 gb white Dane-Elec Meizu from Walgreens.
I was expecting it to have a killed volume and radio, but it turned out that I had a max volume of 40 AND a great fm radio perfectly enabled!
It also has the Meizu by Dane Elec logos everywhere, so I'm assuming it's Dane-Elec.
It turns out that some dane-elec models have the right firmware.
Anyway, I'm using S10.10.3, and, since most people would upgrade for the volume and radio but I don't have that problem, I'm wondering if i should upgrade into the 2.x.x.x, for the better look? (is that true? I heard that)
Also does 2.x.x.x fix the album tracklisting bug?
should I upgrade or just leave it as is..
by the way, I'm not too worried about the warranty because in my manual it says "Check meizu site for download new firmware"
So technically, I'm allowed to use meizu firmware...right?
Thanks everyone (love the community here btw, and love the meizu too)

From what I heard the newest version fixes the track listing bug, not sure about other bugs. Also I believe that using official Meizu firmware will void your warranty but dane-elec provides their own version.

If I'm wrong please correct me

    Hey,

I bought a Walgreens 4G M6 a few weeks back, and upgrading to the US Dane Elec firmware (available elsewhere on this site) fixes a number of problems, primarily for me the FM recording feature in High Quality mode. Previously it sounded like an old Robert Johnson record and now is pretty listenable, though not what it could be.

Supposedly extends the battery life also, though I have not checked this. Just send your warranty card back and I think it doesn't matter what Meizu firmware you put on the thing.

Despite what a few whiners are saying about Walgreens, they are pretty accomodating and efficient. They were swamped with orders when they dropped the price on this in early May to $99 and things got sort of clogged up when Dane Elec US did not have enough units on hand to instantly satisfy orders. I may have different thoughts six months from now.

I've been perfectly satisfied with the Walgreens Dane-Elec M6 I got from them a month ago. It's running S10.10.3, sounds great, plays the movies I've loaded onto it just fine. The family pictures I carry on it and wallpapers I've loaded onto it look fantastic. Weighing the features added and bugs fixed in the newer firmware versions against the number of problems people have reported when they tried to update the firmware, think I'll stay put on S10.10.3.

People who had problems with upgrading firmware didn't read the FAQ

I 've made all upgrades since the 1.010 and never had any problem.

Yea... pretty much figured that most of the reported problems updating the firmware were operator errors. I just haven't come across any real benefit(s) to updating. kiloscot mentions above that FM recording has been improved, but that's not anything I'd be using regularly. (hey kiloscot, do you go to school there at UC?). the extended battery life is another fix. when I first got mine I purposely let it run and after 12 hours the little gauge was barely halfway down. convinced me that it holds more juice then I'll ever need to go through at one time. couple of other posts mention playlist fixes, animated gifs, things like that, but nothing so great that makes me think that I'd have something markedly better then what I already have. just my opinion. to all of you who stay on the most up-to-date firmware versions, absolutely nothing wrong with that either. in fact, I'm hoping to hear from one of you one of these days about some outstanding new feature that provides that real incentive to update...

    Hey, C,

Nah, just living in Berkeley. Could never afford to go to school here, even though it's "public education." Dane Elec US probably sold 1000 of these things in the last month through Walgreeens alone so we will probably see some sort of Yank influx here on the site in coming weeks.

Battery life depends on what you're doing with the player. Obviously, vid watching is king, but FM listening seems to suck more juice than music files, which in turn depends on format and bitrate. Haven't checked, but reading e-books underneath the covers after lights out probably eats a lot of power, too.

What's shakin' in the Big H?

I would upgrade you Dane-Elect to the latest Meizu firmware. There is a difference. I just did so and now I can use MTP or MSC mode(This isn't in Dane's version). Also, I was having problems playing video in Dane's and now it works fine with 2.003.2.
