I doubt it would make much difference as the high power consumption is due to the backlight that illuminates the Liquid Crystal panel. Even when viewing a pure black image the backlight is still using the same amount of power it's just that the panel is preventing the light from passing through.
At least that is my understanding

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsActually, even with the backlight off, and everything on the skin solid black, including text, it will still use the about the same amount of power as a white skin because the black "color" is still made by flowing a current through the crystal. When dormant, the crystal is actually a dark gray, not pure black. Changing color wouldn't really change the power consumption anyway because the liquid crystal takes such micro sized amounts of energy flowing through it to change the color that it wouldn't matter much. Might get another hour, if anything.

Darkchronos is right about the fact that a dark skin will use as much power as a light skin.Of course turning off the backlight saves power, however, this is not the point here.
LCD displays use the same amount of power regardless of what color is displayed. therefor, a dark background with white letters will use as much power as a white background with dark letters..
This is not the case with plasma screens for example..plasma uses power according to the brightness of the color. A full black screen on a plasma display will hardly use any power while a full white screen will use a lot.

ah , didnt know that about the plasmas , but if a display is left alone and the colour it is is just pure black when its not turned on , wouldnt that mean that when it trys to display pure black it would have some sort of smart control chip in it to tell it to just not do anything with those pixels??? or are sreens just dumb???
