Am I the only who's having this problem?
Ever since f2002.1 or so, my player has started to update the disc information every single time I turn it on. That's a big annoyance for two reasons:
1) it makes the startup time even longer (and the long startup time was already my #1 complaint about this player)
2) it really resets the player and its play history. It used to be so that, after starting up, it would at least put me back at the last played track and the position in that track where I left off, but now it starts at the beginning of the first track on the player every single time.
I'm thinking now that Meizu owns this place, they must be reading this, right? How many times can I, and others, ask for a shorter startup time (and a user-definable shutdown delay)?
Please Meizu, pleeeeaaaaase!

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsFor me it doesn't update disk information every time i turn it on, but every time I connect to the PC, then disconnect. Even if it was only to charge it up. In fact it updates disk information even when I disconnect it from the wall charger. Very annoying. If it is necessary then I'll live with it. But if it isn't then stop it already!

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsWhen you are playing a song and you turn your player off, it will go back to it when you turn it back on. The player only updates the disc information if you plugged it into the computer.
It doesn't refresh to the previous song you were listening to because it is updating the music library, and the same thing will happen if you press "update music library" in your M6 too.
LOL Meizu does not own this place. It was an April fool's joke played by Err0r. = ="
Go back to that post and see for yourself. You can perhaps mention your wishes inside the firmware wishlist, but doing so is like throwing money into a wishing well - nothing will happen

Why "nothing will happen" iversonjack?
I've seen several improvements on M6 firmware, some of them inspired in popular demand as album art or DRM pompatibility just to mention a couple of them. Several other bugs were and are going to be solved thanks to the guys who take the time to write their feedback.Internet has an answer for every question out there, not likely to be always the answer you're looking for.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThat's what one'd expect, but that has not been the case for me. It's the reason I've started this thread. I've tried formatting the lot and re-upping the firmware, but nothing doing. Perhaps there's some kind of software-hardware bug at play. Anyway, hearing that it's not the case for everyone, I'm thinking perhaps I might try reformatting yet again.
I'm aware of this behavior. It's been like that since I bought the player with its original firmware (1009 then, I believe). It's logical and not a big hassle, but again, it's started doing this every single time I start it up.
Wow... color me stupid.
I thought it made a lot of sense though. This place is an invaluable resource for foreign owners of the Meizu players, and it's always had civilized discussion and oodles of goodwill from all the folks involved (not easy to come by on internet forums these days). Maybe Meizu/Meizume should consider a deal.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsYes, but the biggest problems have not been addressed (i.e. shutdown issues). Maybe that's just my hangup though.
Also... instead of really addressing these show-stopping issues, they add some half-baked features that I (and I suspect others as well) could not care less about. Case in point, the visual spectrum analyzer, which doesn't even work well (referring to the background blend thing now).
To be perfectly honest, I'm at the point now where I've stopped recommending the player to friends. I still consider its firmware to be beta at best, and only someone with enough goodwill is probably going to accept all its flaws. Obviously, there's enough there to keep me (and many others) satisfied, but I find the slow pace in which Meizu addresses some real issues to be very frustrating.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI think the automatically update of music library function was only introduced in the new firmwares (v2.00x.x). Previous versions, you had to update the music library manually if I'm not wrong.

Hm... Zaan, I noticed a special kind of "Updating" message once after changing FM.INI on the player. It was at the bottom of the Logo screen , on a black background. Is this maybe what you're getting? Maybe clearing out some items (FM.INI for one) from the system folder will do it?
Or maybe it has to do with the date on some folder in your collection... maybe it's always in the future, so it always thinks it's a new one. I'm speculating here, of course.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsUgh... Reset the player to factory settings with the 8 second ff thing, then formatted it with the 8 second rw thing, then installed the new firmware (2003.1), loaded some files, and bang! Updating disc information on every restart. Every single restart, no matter how I shut down the player (by itself, or by pressing the power off).
This is not good.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsSomewhere someone suggested that this problem might be caused by less than pristine files on the player.
Well, I decided to try and verify that hypothesis.
Using foobar2000 0.9.4.2 and the File Integrity Verifier plugin, I tested all the MP3 files on my player for encoding problems. A few files were flagged as having minor problems (time codes being incorrect) and a few other files filed the integrity check. They were said to contain garbage ID3 data. So, I removed the latter and performed a VBR header fix on the other files. Then, just to be sure, I chose 'rebuild mp3 stream', and tested the files again. Every file now passed the integrity check.
So I disconnect my player, let it update the library, then update the library again manually just to be sure.
Next, I turn it off and turn it back on, and what greets me... yes, the UPDATE MUSIC LIBRARY SCREEN!
By now, I'm just green with frustration.
I mean, I've done all that I possibly could do, but the bug didn't go away.

I tried having less music on my miniplayer. In my example I had only 2 albums left. And, guess what? There is no more music library update on startup.
I'm not sure wether this "bug"(?) occurs because of too much music (which I can't imagine) or maybe wrong files in the music folder (like pictures, except of album art, or .nfo or so).
I'll try to add more and more music to my player and see how far i can get.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsGood... except it's a little disheartening. So, if I put only 2 folders in my 4GB player, I'll be a little less frustrated.
(By the way, that sad face is directed at Meizu, not anyone here).
Still, Puffel, I'm curious as to what you will find. Perhaps you'll be able to pin down the problem once and for all, and that would actually make me somewhat happy.
As for me, I've tried (I described it above) and haven't been able to start the player up without having it rescan the disc yet, even though I have only perfectly valid mp3s and a few small album art jpgs on it, and then only about 1.3 GB out of a total 4.

have you tried it with only one album?
-
04-20-2007 #19
Okay I have around 15 albums on my miniplayer now. I don't have any more update screens on startup.
I think the problem is caused by wrong filetypes in the MUSIC folder, although this sound ridiculous. I only have music and picture files (album art) in my MUSIC folder and no more .nfo .rar.
