Vista and DFU tools? DFU not needed on Vista?
I just uploaded an SP firmware to my TP player and so got the white screen.
No biggie, i just had to download the DFU tools again as I just got a new computer
to my surprise the DFU tools were not needed at all to fix the problem! Vista automatically recognized the player as a DFU server and gave the option to scan for suitable software...after like 10 secs its was done and all i had to do was restart the player.... not a DFU tool used!Last edited by Job; 03-18-2007 at 08:05 PM.

Unbelievably awesome!
One more reason to ignore those annoying Mac ads.
Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

Pretty cool indeed.
Thats one of the reasons why Meizu is the best by far :DInternet has an answer for every question out there, not likely to be always the answer you're looking for.

Same on my laptop, when my M6 crashed Vista recognized it as a DFU server (while pressing Play and M continuously) and restored it without DFU tools ^^

great to get a confirmation of that

I wasn't sure if it actually was Vita or just the DFU tools that got activated automatically by Vista
Seems like Vista is smarter than i though...
Maybe this should be stickied?

the same worked with my vista .. so it really seems to work without dfu tools now

Even though I'm not that convinced of vista, this is certainly a argument for vista.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI have Vista and it's not working for me. I tried to do the firmware update and im getting a green screen with stating 'No Resource!' 'Please upgrade resource again'. When i plug in my player i get the "Found New Hardware" window. I click "Locate and install driver software" it then asks for a disk, which i don't have with me, i then click "Check for a solution". I finally get "Windows was unable to install your MiniPlayer"

going offtopic a bit... i agree Vista doesnt seem to have many direct benefits over XP
Vista is slower than XP for example
it does look nicer but that just eyecandy which isnt even that special
what i do appreciate a lot about Vista is Readyboost... speed up your computer(significantly) by simply plugging in a USB stick!

Hmm, i use vista ultimate as well, but when i plug my Meizu in, it detects as a removable storage which is what it should do normally.
In regards to the firmware i would simply put the two firmware files into the Meizu, remove my Meizu from usb connection, turn it on, and it then recovers or upgrades the Meizu. I did this when my Meizu lost the settings option in main menu, which by the way cannot be disabled of from the Meizu it self (settings).

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI have to ask, if Vista can use the M6 properly as a DFU server, then how come noone has yet made a WORKING DFU Tool that does not screw up half the time, or have errors like, the program gets stuck if it fails forcing you to reopen both the files it had loaded, screwing up with USB 2, and other crap as if this program came from 1990 or something...
I have a question, if you connect to the PC in Vista, do you still have to hold the play and menu buttons down the whole time for it to be recognized, or does Vista recognize it anyway?
EDIT: OH, and not to mention the fact that it seems it takes 17 times on average for DFU to work for a whole bunch of people... what the hell is up with that? Meizu gives us a program that can kill our players with ease, and it does not get it right 100% of the time on the first time?Last edited by DChronos; 09-02-2007 at 12:13 AM.

09-02-2007 #17My experience with Vista (32bit) is that it does recognise the device as a DFU server and installs the driver but it does not show or become accessible in Explorer so you still need to use the DFU Tool to load the firmware to your player.I have to ask, if Vista can use the M6 properly as a DFU server, then how come noone has yet made a WORKING DFU Tool that does not screw up half the time, or have errors like, the program gets stuck if it fails forcing you to reopen both the files it had loaded, screwing up with USB 2, and other crap as if this program came from 1990 or something...

You still need to press the Power\Play and M button throughout the whole process. I also have never had any problems with my AMD system or USB 2.0 as others have mentioned but based on the experiences of others I think there may be compatibility issues with some systems.
The DFU Tool has always worked first time, every time with me but then I have never used it because my player is bricked.EDIT: OH, and not to mention the fact that it seems it takes 17 times on average for DFU to work for a whole bunch of people... what the hell is up with that?
Most recovery processes and software can cause furthur problems if performed incorrectly or the process is interrupted before complete. Cowon will not even release the recovery driver and software for their players, you need to send your player back to them for recovery.Meizu gives us a program that can kill our players with ease, and it does not get it right 100% of the time on the first time?
I also think that many people run for the DFU Tool without exploring all other recovery options first rather than using it only if everything else fails.Last edited by madman; 09-02-2007 at 03:08 AM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsWell, for me, I did not want to use DFU because of what I head about it killing the player if it doesn't work right, and tried everything before doing that. And when I DO use it, my player is recognized and everything, but works one time or so, then gives constant can't connect errors and crap, really pissing a guy off after 5 minutes of that. I have to either restart, or otherwise it just works at random.
I tried another broken M6 that didn't change it, either, and it didn't work the first time, either. Also, according to what I read, you didn't need DFU tool at all on Vista, they just say to drag and drop the firmware onto it and it installs it.I swim through a sea of stars, without looking back to shore...

Yeh vista may have a few extra little features that xp dosnt have , I was on vista ultimate for about a week but i switched back to xp because of the hudge amount of ram all the vista services took up , out of 2gb of ram almost 500mb was being used and paged... Not good. Now im back on xp with a commit charge of just over 122mb running a very cool mac theme with the dock bar and window effects - Yes apple blah blah , but you gotta admit , the look of apple stuff and style is brill.
