OK guys ! Now the question is : do we need this rep system ? Maybe not (that's my answer). If someone is insolent or injurious, i think Error will delete his registration, right ?
If someone help the others, he will be thanked (by those who have courtesy !), right again ? If someone posts off-topic, it must be simple to tell him and possibly deleting the message after, and that's right ! We aren't at school, it's not a career plan, it's only a forum with/for passionate persons ! And i'll do my best to keep that !

overall I agree with XX-C... we aren't at school and its no career plan...neither does the current rep-system seem to work well as positives aren't given as much as negatives and often people don't see to be interested in saying thanks or giving a rep-judgment. Also I think that those who contribute positively to the site are not in it to get "rewards" in the form of a reputation system. A very active member like XX-C(and many others, just using a good example here) isn't here for that but because he likes doing it without being graded, rewarded or punished

On the other hand I understand it might be a lot of work for just 2 people to keep a site that grows clean and manageable and some sort of system might work...

It will be easy to filter out the abusive members and they wont have a long life on the site.
The problem with the current rep-system is that basically every pos or neg given should be checked whether it wasn't for no reason or just to support or ruin someones rep on the site.

As this is a fan-site there will probably always be 2 kinds of users...those who primarily ask and those who mainly answer..

As finding a fair "feedback" system will be hard and might be even harder to implement(I have no knowledge about the programming part so I am just guessing here) it might be better to not use one untill there is one thats very functional...

just my 2 cents

lol. i never knew my little post would generate such controversial replies.

i know from experience that most people are quick to assign blame to others but think more than twice before giving praise. given this, i had an idea that the reputation status would more or less be skewed to the negative side.

this is why i suggested that members should be able to read the comments or posts of negative points. sort of like in ebay, if a seller is given negative feedback, then everyone else can read the details and judge for themselves if the feedback is justifiable or not.

in any case, as you've all pointed out, it's not THAT important but then again, there might be some people who would judge members at "face value" (i.e. looking at reputation only) so having a red dot is not a good thing, in that case.

my two cents as well. :D

I dont think the rep system need to be taken away , some users didnt know it was there is the first place , including me . And i think its quite neat , Banning someone would be to the extreme . But a bad rep for off topic seems fair.

Reputation is good. It gives good capacity to "inspire" people to post more useful content and more resourceful content. :D

Not when you give negative feedback randomly to posts that don't deserve it.

The reputation system can give new users a quick gauge of usefulness of posts, serve as incentive to create higher quality posts and can also give me guidelines to who to promote to Valued Member status.

@iversonjack - Your last post is one which I would consider giving neg to. Stating universal truths isn't really making any point. Anything is bad when it is given to people not deserving it, no?

When people make incorrect statements, it automatically warrants them a negative. :P

Edit: Maybe i should use another word instead of "people" XD

Good points
I don't think a rep-system is needed but it IS nice(as in just fun) if it works correctly and isn't abused.
Take the Ebay feedback system for example...we all know it CAN give a good indication of that seller but there are tons of ways to cheat it and is often used just to give "retaliation feedback" or random nonsense feedback

Thats why i don't agree with those who say Iversonjacks comment "Not when you give negative feedback randomly to posts that don't deserve it." doesn't hit the mark as I think what he did was point out the fact that - as I stated above regarding ebay- any system like that can be abused...

I've had my fair share of deleted posts (let's just say I'd be on more than 400 by now) So I think the rep system is awsome, as it tells you to hold back when neccessary
