just noticed the job's reputation is in the red. which makes me very curious as i haven't noticed any disruptive behavior from him so far. wonder who is giving him negative points and why?

by the way, error, have been able to "promote" the member with the most positive points to valued member? :D

Thats right...I havent posted offensive or bad stuff...
I got a negative rating because I posted off-topic a few times(dont remember them all i guess as I dont recall being any more off topic then any other people in posts as my posts are usually replies to other peoples posts...)
for example in the "Meizu at Cebit 2007" post in the section where you could post your suggestions for the questions the interviewer could ask to the meizu representative I posted "Can I have one for free?"...as a joke

As that post has been deleted I assume I got a negative point for that, making my status red...

A bit odd though as a few silly posts make my status red while the times I helped people with their firmware problems for example dint seem to get any positives to balance out some silly jokes...

Yeah, I'm not sure they've noticed though. Let's see if you notice.

And about Job, I don't know about others, but I have given neg rep two times. Normally, I don't disclose reasons publicly, but since Job is being so loudmouthed about it (forum posts, signature), then I assume he won't be ashamed if I write why. Also, you can't see the posts because they have been deleted because they would otherwise have spread confusion and a generally negative experience to readers of the thread(s).

One instance I remember best was when a member asked for a solution to a Meizu M6 problem, reply #2 gave some software suggestions, Job quoted #2 and asked some off-topic question about a specific software mentioned (his post was around 5 words).

Generally, if you do not have any value to add, be quiet. There are of course other cases where you need to ask for a solution, express gratitude to people who've helped or some strong feeling towards a piece of information, and that's understandable too.

Its ok
I know i posted off topic a few times and I don't mind people knowing about it. Its not being loudmouthed, I replied to Glaciers post who asked specifically about my reputation. The signature I have is to let people know I am not some poster that uses abusive language or just messes around with people but that i got the "red dot" for something relatively trivial

I did ask that question about Virtual Dub(whether it also converted Avi to WMV) as that was the "Need help using VduB"-thread I didnt realize that would be considered off topic as I also wanted help with Vdub. So its debatable whether that's off-topic in my opinion

it would be nice to get some positive for those times I do help though. I help 20 people fix their broken player cause they messed around with the firmware and don't get any positives... I post a FEW silly and innocent jokes and a few questions I really wanted an answer to though admittedly could be considered off-topic and I get a bunch of negatives... not really fair in my opinion

anyway...ill keep helping people solve their firmware problems but ill stay away from the whole reputation system

I for one have thanked Job for his help and posts regarding technical issues. And, until today reading this post, I was unaware that the reputation system even existed. I would imagine that goes for many other users and visitors to the site as well.

My thumbs up and support to Job.

Just as reputation is not trivial to you, the negs I gave were not trivial to me. Please be fair when making a point.

And people do give positives, just take a look here. But of course it would be better if more people were aware of this.

My point is fair i think as it represents my own opinion... we all have our viewpoints
I don't consider myself a member who has a negative influence on the site at all and I don't think many do(also judging by the posts above)

I do think the rep-system is unbalanced as I get a lot more personal thank-yous from people that got their problem fixed than I get (negative) comments yet my rep doesn't reflect this...

That's why personally I refrain from giving anyone any reputation-feedback.

Cudos to XX-C though cause I see him all over the place helping people out!

Hey, don't skew my point. When did anyone even hint that you as a member was a negative influence?

Also, as you may see, xx-c also has the highest amount of rep points.

If you don't want to use the rep system, that's your choice. I'll still + posts I like and - I don't. Well then, everything is fine now?

No no.. I did in no means mean to imply you or any member in particular sees me as a negative influence.
I am saying the red-reputation-dot does

Off topic(hehe here we go again)
Somewhere I saw I received 10 negative re-points(is that possible I saw it in a little pop up when i went over a link or the dot? I don't remember well)... there is no way I posted 10 off topic is silly posts... so I wonder where those came from. However, I might have seen something else too

It turns out administrators had 10x more rep power, but now it has been made equal. I guess you deserve 18 points back.

Edit: Or actually, it turns out my natural rep power was 3. so, that means 14 points back. :P
