Skin Gallery?

Would it be difficult to implement a gallery for skins? So that you could easily browse the gallery to find a skin that appeals to you and then by clicking on the image or link are taken to the thread about the skin and download link. Or am I just being plain lazy?!

seems like a good idea to me. of course, i'm not the one who's going to be working on it so i really have no say in it. :D

that is a very good idea.... i'm just hoping it is a possible solution for the crew...

it is a growing number of skins out there and it is beggining to be to much to handle in an ordinary underforum...

Here's a better way to make it work: One could make a page with a bunch of small thumbnails, then when a thumbnail is clicked on, it'll bring up a larger view with more pics of the skin and a description about it and the creator (possibly links to the creator's page or profile), and a link to download it right there as well.

Alternatively, to save space, you could just have a page with some larger animated thumbnails that slowly show different views of the skins, and clicking on the pic downloads the skin. The first alternative sounds better to me, though.

Actually, I've been trying to find a viable vBulletin hack (software) to do this for a long time, but haven't been successful yet.

Photoplog does not allow you to add files to download, and leaves a mark on the top of every page.

Also, if there was such a gallery; members would not be able to provide the same level of feedback to the skinners as they do now.

error: i understand that it will be harder to give feedback to the skinners but it doesn't mean that the forumpart isn't needed... can't you have both a gallery and a forum?? that could be possible in some way, shouldn't it??

if you meant my avatar, it is Holly, a miningspaceship's computer with an IQ of 4000.... He is a charactor in the tv-series Red Dwarf... Heheh, we had that show on over here in the mid US, along with another funny show, the Red-Green show.

Anyway, I was suggesting someone could use one of the free small website services (a good one, not a geocities bullcrap type one), and set it up that way. Well, actually, whomever owns this very server could have someone build a web page for it and host it right here! I might be able to create something simple, if I have some more time to do so, but I'm a beginner in page building, working on creating my own site first.

this isn't necessarily true, error. you know those sites that offer free layouts and other stuff, they have galleries but there are also links for each item that lead to a forum thread. so if maizume were to have a gallery for skins, a link can be added for each skin that points to the relevant thread for that skin, where members can leave feedback and the skin creator can respond.

This Gallery of Skins would be a custom script coded to work in conjunction with vBulletin. As I am no coder, this would likely mean I will have to pay a coder for this hefty project. Although the Gallery would be an improvement, I feel that that type of money would be better spent on other things, such as providing some good and valuable prizes in coming contests.

This would work, but would create two separate entities; MeizuMe and "The Skins".

Who actually finds it hard browsing for skins? We could create a sticky topic where I (or an assigned volunteer) create and maintain a list of the skins with thumbnails and links to the topics. I find browsing for skins to be a relatively easy task...

you're right, of course. then again, if someone in the community is capable of doing such type of coding, and would volunteer their services, it would be a good thing. wish i could volunteer but i'm not a coder either.

Why can't someone make a thread and list all the links to the skins in ti, and everytime someone makes a new one they update it,

I would prefer what DChronos mentioned. A script that also shows detailed information and pictures.
I don't think that such a script is difficult to code - the thing is that i don't know php and therefore can't do it. I could help out with a html page, but nobody except of me could add things and it would be even worse than PhotoPlog then ^.^

I could easily code that as a web page with basic page building knowledge. But for now, I went ahead and made a quick list of all skins and who they are by in this thread: List of Current Skins

The mods could just sticky that thread for everyone to use for the time being, as I'll be updating it and keeping track of new skins as best I can.
