Hey all!
This problem happened about 3 hours before I posted this.
My Sony MDREX71-SL in-ear earphones' RIGHT EAR suddenly stopped working. The LEFT EAR still works.
I tried to twist the connection between the two ears, opened it, but don't know how to fix it. After twisting it a bit, I got some sound coming out of the right ear again, but only for around 2 seconds. It still doesn't work.
I think it is the problem with wiring, maybe it has a lose connection, but I am scared to rip my earphone open before someone actually tells me exactly what to do.
Any pros out there who can help me? Pictures are shown below for your reference:

hi, maybe you need to blow in your earphone becauze there is a little driver inside it and it can be moved zo that you hardly hear anything.
I've had it whit my earphones and it worked.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsHow long have you had the ex71s? The cord is notorious for falling apart after a year or so.
You could try to make sure that the metals aren't connecting with the other, or taping the broken wire. I would suggest getting a new pair of earphones.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsi sympathize with you, iversonjack. i had a pair exactly like yours (only mine was black) and the exact same thing happened to me. the right earpiece went dead as well and i had no choice but to buy a new pair. i'm now using the philips shs-8000. they're not too bad, but they're a bit softer than the sony.

I had the EX71 too. The thing I like about Sweden is, despite the higher prices, most stores provide great repair & replacement service if the item is still under warranty. I traded mine for a pair of Cresyn LMX630, similar SQ to the Sonys.
Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

Unless you can solder there isn't all that much you can too I'm afraid O-o
The number of pairs of Sony headphones I've repaired in the house in the last 3 years is staggering - we always end up with Sony kit some how.
I've had my pair of Koss earphones for about 2 1/2 years now and they're still going strong =]
I would take yours back to the shop if they aren't pass their guarantee.~audiofish~

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsIf you are going to bin them if they dont work , dont be afraid to open them up, at least you can attempt to fix but will need a soldering iron and some skill to fix, I have bought very cheap headphones just to use the wire to repair expensive earphones. (cheap earbuds the wire is to thin to use buy the larger headphones as the wire is stronger)
wire will break in the earpiece or at the plug, or within 1 or 2 cm of both due to the constant movement of the wire, cut the wire about an 2cm shorter should be enough to bypass the break.Last edited by FirePower; 02-27-2007 at 10:23 PM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsOh wow thanks for all the advice guys! Really helpful!
Yeah, I'm sure it has passed the warranty, but I don't think there was a warranty in the first place - I bought it in a Taiwanese market :P
I might just end up buying a new set of earphones, so any suggestions?
I need to consider the price (willing to spend $40-60 AUD) and the brand, as well as the function of it.
I will cut the earphone open and see if any of my friends know how to solder :S
Thanks again, peace out~Meizu M8 MiniOne

Thats what you get for buying sony canalphones :D :D The only Sony canalphone to my knowledge that is built to withstand punishment is the EX90. I've broken two pairs of MDR-E888's before, hell never sony buds again lol.
Current Rigs:
8GB iAudio 7 > Not in use
4GB + 32GB iAudio D2 > Alessandro MS-Pro
Sony MZ-NH1 > Headroom Total Bithead > Grado Labs PS-1
2GB Meizu M6 T1 > Not in use
8GB iPod Touch 2G > Shure SE530

same problem with Sony earphones here... left ear didn't work and for some weird reason the rubber literally fell off the wire itself...
Was within warranty period but I lost the receipt.
Contacted sony 5 times through their website. Not a single reply!
Got rid off the Sonys and now use Shure...which btw also broke due to my own fault and got replaced by a new pair immediately

yeah people in the US are laucky with the low price levels there...
Us Europeans(and in this case australians too) get screwed over with just about everything. We get stuff later than the rest and get to pay more...
