    Audiophiles- Canalphones for Meizu

I need some advice from all you audiophiles. I'm seriously considering getting some canalphones to use with my Meizu. There are a truckload available on the internet. Which ones should I get?

    My specs:
    • I mostly listen to Hip-Hop or Classical.
    • I need something that I can keep in my ears for extended periods of time, ~1-5hours, without pain or discomfort.
    • I want to minimize or negate the amount of "hiss" I hear when using the phones.
    • I would prefer to have a pair which would allow me to comfortably rest my head on a pillow.
    • Maximum spending limit would be around $150-200.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

though i haven't personally tried it, i hear that the d-jays are pretty comfortable and would meet the above two requirements. you can search the forums for error's review of the d-jays.

I think you can fit any canalphone when resting the back of your head on a pillow.
With my Shure E4's I can't rest on one side of my head though, it would press into my ear to much.
I doubt you can with any canalphone. Perhaps with customs?
I love the E4's with the M6, they have lots of detail and tons of accurate bass without being boomy.
They do hiss do. Not so loud to be a problem for me.
This is highly subjective, if you can try before you buy.
Check for less sensitive canalphones have less hiss.
You might get E4's for $200.

This question has been asked many times on the head-fi forums.
You might do better reading them instead of posting here.
The Meizu will drive any canalphone just fine.

    Populair are:

    - Creative's EP-630/635
    - V-moda vibes
    - any Shure
    - any Etymotic
    - any Super.fi

    Good luck.

Try a pair of Shure headphones... they are great and very well made and come with a long cord..which is very handy if you want to move freely with your Miniplayer in your pocket

That you can with d-JAYS. Mostly because they have a small angle on the canal. And the q-JAYS which I have now are so small they dissapear in your ear so definatly no problem.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will definitely have to look into these models. Does anyone know which models from the different companies will give me the best output for the type of music I listen to?

Well I don't know if this model is still available, but I use the Sony MDREX-71SL and they are quite good. Good price for it, and they come with extension cord that goes to 2 metres long :O

You mention hip-hop and classical. Two completely different kind of music . With the M6 as I expect you use, you can often tweak most part of IEMs to a pretty good sound. What really differs IEMs in the low-end category as Sony EX-71, Creative EP-630 and so on compared to mid-end like d-JAYS is the midrange and the highs. Much more detail. So my advice is to put as much money you can on the IEMs. The earphones will make a bigger sound difference then any change of MP3 player, that I promise you

Error uses the d-JAYS and I think he's into Hip-hop. Maybe he can give you his thoughts on that. d-JAYS isn't a heavy bass IEM out of the box. But it's really sensitive to the equalizer so there are no problems getting heavy bass out of it. And if you're into classical music too, then you don't wanna have boomy loudness bass.

We have to work this out Tred

I am new to this canalphone thing. Is there anywhere you can try before you buy? I bought a pair last night at Walmart - just to try to see if it would be comfortable to have something in my ear canal. It came with 3 different sizes of silicone plugs + 1 pair of foam. Even the smallest size wasn't small enough.
Any ideas with someone with a small ear canal?

JAYS headphones comes with a pair of XS too. 4 sleeves total. But we have no retail store in your area at the moment. But we are working on that.

I've made a video for the ones interested in how JAYS headphones looks.

I'd recommend Westone UM2, IEM with 2 Drivers (armature), rather warm sound (good bass response), not as much details in the highs as Ultimate Ears Superfi5pro, very good value for money, maximum comfort when worn.

You can order them for example from www.headphonesolutions.com

I personally own V-moda Vibe (very sweet sound for the price), and UE Superfi5pro. Both are very good phones, but I wouldn't recommend the UE if you want to lay on your pillow, since they're sticking out of your ear.

I suggest the V-Moda bass Freq headphones; all I listen to is rap/hip-hop, and these will really let you feel the bass in the songs. C-Net rates them #2 for earbuds next to the E4C's. Also the $40-50 price tag is good.

I recommend the Shure e4c. Its got sonic characteristics that give a good balance for classical and hip-hop music. While maintaining excellent details without being too lean on bass, it should be able to suit your needs.

Alternatively, you could try the Super.fi.5 pro. Which is heavier on bass compared to the E4c.

Or, go with the V-moda vibes, supposedly a very warm sound signature, it provides good value for money if you're new to canalphones.

I plan on buying a good pair of canalphones once and holding on to them for a few years.

Im really interested in the q-jays but they are not out yet. Can we get some specs and pics?

Unfortunately, I can't wait for these come out. My current earbuds are breaking down and my bose triports are too bulky to transport.

I'm thinking of maybe getting the E4c's. Although they do surpass my spending limit. Does anyone know where I can buy these for the cheapest price? Also, how would these canalphones fair when resting my ears against a pillow? Do they stick out like the UE's? And how comfortable are they?

    Thanks again for the advice.

Didn't you get my PM? q-JAYS will be 250$. Sorry, can't give you pictures at the moment since they are at the proto stage.

reachme has already said that the e4c's press into your ear too much when lying on your side.

I just tried the d-JAYS and q-JAYS on my pillow. No problems at all.

don't all canalphones and IEMs press into your ear if your lying on the side? I've tried things ranging from the ep630 to the UM2 and they all press into your ears... Might depend on the physical shape of your ear though, or the fluffiness of your pillow
