    Meizu Weird Sound

Here's the deal... When I start up my Meizu, there's an odd sound that is very audible (like a high-pitched grinding) when I put my ear on the back of the Meizu. The sound stops once I press the play button and does not return when I pause the music. Is this something that anyone else has encountered? Is there a microdrive in the Meizu? I thought it was flash-based.

You are right. Meizu is a flash-based player. With regards to the sound, I have never encountered it before.
So does the sound appear only when you put your earphones on? Or does it appear without the earphones too?
Maybe it is something to do with the firmware or the type of player. Is your player a TP, SP, or dane-elec brand?
I myself have a TP version and when my Meizu starts up, no sound is heard at all.

It's not a sound in the headphones - it's a sound that is audible when you hold your ear close to the back of the Meizu Miniplayer upon startup (and until you press the play button). Try it out and let me know what you get.

I have an SP version, newest firmware.

Mine makes a really faint high pitched noise while charging. Kinda of like the noise you hear when the tvs on with the sound turned off.

Hmm... so what is that? Does anyone know?
It bothered me at first, but my Meizu kept working so I stopped worrying about it.

i'm thinking it has something to do with the electric current that passes through the circuits at the miniplayer's startup.

like willy said, it's probably the same thing as when the tv is turned on. i've also noticed before that my previous cellphone would emit a high-pitched whine (faint) during charging process.

But if it's DC, not charging, etc. the current should remain at a constant, should it not? And the TV has to do with the speakers, AC current, and the CRT (which is basically an electron gun)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I still don't think that is the answer.

Although Lithium Ion batteries, the type in the Meizu, are charged with a DC current, the voltage applied is often varied using a technique called Pulse Width Modulation whereby the electricity is pulsed on and off many times per second. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulse-width_modulation.

If this is the case, the electricity could capacitively couple to the sounder inside the meizu which generates the click tones.

If that were the case, however, it would be constantly on - not just when files are transferred and on startup. My guess is that the microprocessor inside the meizu is not correctly turning off the sounder and is being somehow driven by the data signals from the flash memory - that could explain the fact it only occurs during these particular times. I'm just speculating - it would be hard to tell without opening it up and connecting it to an oscilloscope.

In a TV there is a high-voltage 'boost' converter that requires an oscillating voltage to function. This high-voltage, oscillating signal is what you can hear.
